By calling everyone racist, the actual racists get less heat. You're not doing any good attempting to whip up an inquisition.

They also deny the roll dems played in segregation and racism for the years between civil war and integration. Before they called republicans racist they called them nigger lovers.

Nobody denies the "role" they played. Rational people realize that this was the state of the U.S. political landscape almost 50 years ago (as so eloquently stated by Michael Richards), and that this is now, in 2007. In fact, the paradigm shift that pretty much changed what both parties stood for socially occured because of a civil rights issue.

Would you ridicule a 16 year old German or Japanese kid because of what their country did during World War II? Probably not, although some of you seem like the kind of people who would ridicule him solely because he's not American.

The Republicans and Democrats switched places a while ago

I AM a southerner. This is My history I'm talking about. As for who denies it, I refer you to >>10, who seems to feel that when the dems took the "whites only" sign off the drinking fountain the reps immediately cut off the water.
My observation is that conservatives aren't racist, republicans aren't racist, but democrats will always make an issue of race at the drop of a hat

The LEFT and RIGHT are NOT the same as Democrats and Republicans. Left-wing and Right-wing are political ideologies. In fact, the terms "liberal" and "conservative" are misonomers to an extent, when referring to political ideologies. For instance, the The "Liberal Democratic" Party of Japan is actually a right-wing party, probably the most right-wing party in Japan (not counting the National Socialist Japanese Workers and Welfare Party, which is only a minor contender in their political arena).

The Democratic Party and the Republican Party are only the names of political parties, practically glorified sports teams. The ideals of the left and the ideals of the right haven't changed much since they were first established as political ideologies, evolving mainly to address progession in technology, and other societal changes.

The constituencies of both parties, on the other hand, have changed greatly, with a shift about half a decade ago based on a civil rights issue. Progessives and liberals (mostly left-wing) have always been arguing for civil rights. Those who subscribed to the right-wing ideologies have always been on the opposing side. In fact, contrary to what >>1 states, Jews were some of the most vocal non-black champions of black suffrage and civil rights during the civil rights movement. Currently, in 2007, those who are mostly against civil rights (whether it be in regards to gays, blacks, Mexicans, etc.) are in the Republican Party, and those who are mostly arguing in favor are in the Democratic Party. Whether the state of these two parties regarding this social issue could change in the near future nobody knows. The fact that this could happen, though, and has happened, just goes to show that one should not base their political views on what a party says, but what they personally believe in, based on careful research and personal experience.

Which is why only an idiot will base their political views solely on what the parties say. A rational person will look at both political ideologies, find which aspects of both of them that they agree with, and then find the party who best represents these personal views.

Too many people confuse Left-wing/Liberal and Right-wing/Conservative with the parties that they are currently consolidated in. They couldn't be more wrong.

From my personal observation, most people I know or have seen who are Republicans or conservatives are much more racist than those I know who are Democrats or liberals. Some Republicans or conservatives I know feel so strongly on this issue that they are willing to bring it up in the middle of a restaurant, even making derogatory comments about certain Asian groups, and only afterwards asking "oh, are you Japanese?" which I am, but they probably also subscribe to the "they all look the same" opinion on Asians. This is about the time when I try to change the conversation, because we're in the middle of a Japanese restaurant, too.

On the other hand, most people I know who are liberals or Democrats choose not to bring up the issue of race, ever, in a conversation.

This doesn't mean that I haven't met some very nice conservatives, who aren't racist, because I have met many.

But then again, these are just my personal experiences/observations, as were yours.

Yes actually in my personal experience I've met considerably more racist democrats. Almost every democrat I know finds inter-racial dating to be 'low class'. Though none of them are racist as far as legislation goes, it doesn't actually affect voting. As far as the scale of politics goes, there's no racism left in the country.

Don't change these.
