A 90 year old political movie

They pol, what the fcuk? I watched Bowling for Columbine and it convinced me that guns were good, or didnt make me hate them like everyone says it should. Mainly because Moore in the film is like "Well, so and so place has more guns than anywhere but it doesnt have the crime the US has! So it must be something else besides guns that makes us violent..." And basically none of the other points in the movie made me anti-gun...so what was the point of the movie anyway?

point of the movie: the american system produces citizens who are unable to use guns responsibly.

Some countries in europe have worse guncrime, and others have less. It all depends on the society...

Point of movie: Moore can bash NRA even though he's member and gun owner too.

2 words:
culture & poverty

That's the reason

Yup, dem niggers.

I think it has more to do with culture than with poverty.  Decades ago in the United States, we still had our share of poor people, yet we never had all these school shootings people on the left love to whine about, such as Columbine.  We also had far less restrictive gun control laws then.

The difference, or at least one of them, and a big one btw, is that parents and how they parent their children has changed a lot in the United States.  More and more people live in suburban or urban environments.  As a result, I would presume a smaller and smaller portion of parents are teaching their children how to use firearms safely at an early age.

I think when people lived in more rural areas a longer time ago, parents more often had guns themselves, and more often made sure their children were semi-familiarized with them.  This familiarization, I think, helps with a number of things, just two of which would be to lower the number of accidental deaths due to shootings, as well as to help get rid of some of the stigma/mystery surrounding firearms in the minds of children.

It comes as little surprise to me that as a smaller and smaller percentage of the population owns firearms and teaches their children responsible gun safety and familiarizes them with guns, that the number of accidental shootings will subsequently increase.

You can see the idea already functioning in other policy areas as well.  In parts of Europe, for example, young people more typically grow up in an environment in which alcohol consumption is the norm - as well as done in a responsible manner.  Taking this into mind, it comes as little surprise to me that certain parts of Europe have lower rates of alcohol abuse, likely due to this early-exposure during childhood that I think is crucial.

That said, it would be a good idea, I think, to ensure children are exposed to firearms at a younger age to de-mystify them, reduce the number of accidents and such, and to basically get the child to realize that when they hold a real gun in their hands, it isn't like all the bullshit they see on TV - but to realize that it is a REAL fucking gun that can kill people and destroy things, not a toy.  That said, this is what we need.  Firearms *education,* basically... and at a young age.

I thought the point of kids having guns in a school shooting was because they WANTED a >>8 REAL fucking gun that can kill people and destroy things, not a toy.

The movie basically just asserts that American culture is self destructive and bursting with horseshit

I guess the movie is proof of the Rush Limbaugh/Hannity/etc tenants that "liberals hate America" =(

Acknowledging your culture/country isn't perfect opens the door to improvement, rather than "EVERYTHING IS FINE WE R GREAT LOL"

Watch it again.  Moore doesn't blindly attack America in the film.  He doesn't attack the 2nd Amendment either, contrary to what some think.  He refuted a lot of the arguments from all sides on the question of "Why did Columbine happen."  I think he set out with the intention of debunking both the "because they listened to Marilyn Manson and played Doom" as well as the "because Americans have too many guns" myths.

Bowling for Columbine was an excellent film.  Too bad he later ruined his credibility by opening his mouth and letting sensationalism and spin enter into Feirenheit 9/11.

Some little kid killed a little girl and he blamed it on a government program to give minimum wage workers a tax break. I doubt he even stuttered to think "maybe this is a little far fetched?". I think it was a personal challenge to see if he can make out an irresponsible parent to be the victim when a 6 year old girl has been killed completely unnecessarily.

Don't change these.
