Interesting because it's written after 9-11, but before the invasions of Afganistan and Iraq.
Though the author makes an incorrect assumption about the American Perception of WW2, by presuming that Americans place more weight on the Pacific front. For Americans, WW2 in the Pacifc is Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, whereas the real meat of the story Americans tell their children in schools is how they saved Europe.
It's a bit of odd contrast that the Japanese think of WW2 as being Primarily a Pacific War, where the Americans think of the Pacific front as a sidenote in the story, despite the Americans' primary involvement there.
There are times (most times) when I get the impression from Japanese people that they really do stil hold a grudge against the US, that they don't like to share openly.
