Bill Richardson

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-24 21:22

Lately, all the political focus for the presidential nominations in 08 has been on McCain, Hillary, and Obama. What about those candidates that really aren't getting the attention?
Seems like Bill Ruchardson knows what he's doing.

In 1995, he travelled to Baghdad to negotiate with Hussein to secure the release of 2 americans.

In 1997, he was appointed the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and in 1998 was named the Secretary of Energy.

Right now he's up for re-election for his 2nd term as the govenor of New Mexico. He has had experience in government for a while and is considering running for president in 08.

Issue Positions (based on what he voted on passed issues) -
Pro-choice
Pro-death penalty
Anti-drug legalization
Wants to put more money into education (increase lottery for college students, pay teachers more, etc)
Pro-alternative Energy
Pro-environment (more state parks, better water system, etc)
Pro-socialized health-care
Pro-tax cut
Neutral on Affirmative Action (no votes on which to base the response)
Neutral on Gun Control (no votes on which to base the response)
Neutral on illegal immigration (no votes on which to base the response)
Supports the expansion of Free Trade (no votes on which to base the response)
Neutral on Patriot Act (no votes on which to base the response)

What do you guys think?

How the fuck can you socialize health-care, fund more parks, wage an obscenely expensive war on drugs, fund alternative energy, increase funding for education and at the same time cut taxes? Is this guy just plain retarded or does he want the country to go bankrupt?

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-25 16:50

lols too late!

maybe he'll just cut the military budget by 1/100th ^_^

He's my governer right now and I would say he's doing a pretty damn good job.  He's got a 70% approval rating here in N.M., that's alot considering the amount of polarization these days.

And does it come as a coincidence to you that 70% of adults in New Mexico have licked an asshole clean?

Pro-socialized health-care
Pro-tax cut
Someone explain to me how he's planning to pay for socialized health-case while making tax cuts? Maybe cut the military budget? Yeah right.

I know, I know, in political math 1 + 1 isn't 2 (ssssh, don't mention the growing debt!) but come on.

>>18 Tax cuts are always the way to go if not mixed with increased spending - at which point things can go bazookas. Also, a single-payer system for health-care is looking better and better for you, despite Mark Steyn's endless attempts to flog his homeland (Canada) for having a moribund health system.

I agree.  1+1 doesn't = 2.

Also, since he's a democrat, and has no recorded position on guns, I'd assume he's pro-gun control until he at least says otherwise.  Combine that with his pro-socialized medicine (and thus for higher taxes) and his refusal to support even moderate levels of drug reform like decriminalization, I wouldn't vote for him.  The drug war is important..

Higher taxes = oh noes! Seriously, what the fuck is with some Americans and higher taxes must be evil? Whatever happened at looking at the reason for the tax and then deciding?

The current medical system is utterly fucked up. I guess you don't consider medical insurance a type of tax? They're skyrocketing, in case you hadn't noticed.

I agree with everything else though.

"Seriously, what the fuck is with some Americans and higher taxes must be evil?" You're right in stating that taxes are not intrinsically bad - but government *without exception* always accumulates a sweet-tooth, and then some taxpayer money goes to waste or is spent uselessly. I mean, paying tax is great, as long as you are sure that money acts like an insurance of sorts and isn't spent on contra-productive things.
And having some of the fruits of your labor taken from you without getting anything back, that's slavery.

"The current medical system is utterly fucked up. I guess you don't consider medical insurance a type of tax? They're skyrocketing, in case you hadn't noticed." Blame the FDA, conservatives who try to drag everything down and dems who are unwilling to reform. Private bankruptcy has been on a steady rise, the biggest culprit is psychotic medical costs.

and then some taxpayer money goes to waste or is spent uselessly.
As opposed to private industry? Where are all the profits going? Only a trickle gets back to the middle class.

The government isn't a black hole. They're not dumping all that cash in a huge forgotten vault underground.

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-01 17:56

the biggest culprit is psychotic medical costs.
You need to ask yourself why the medical prices are psychotic.

Don't change these.
