Freedom of Speech on the Air

Should the government be able to regulate speech on the television, radio, or newspapers?

Many people seem to think so.  (Such as the decency acts or whatever... that put fines on certain speech on television companies who put explicit content on the radio or t.v.

Along a related line, should the government be able to regulate the content of video games? Many people, including my own mother advocate this.

She cites various studies showing that violent video games increase the chance that the individual who has played them will become violent and commit violent crimes later in life.

On the other hand... we have the Constitution and Bill of Rights, of course.

Discuss.

Nothing should be regulated. There can never be too much free speech. I have never heard of people turning violent BECAUSE of game or movie. Columbine dudes played doom, but they slaughtered their school, because they were oddballs who were driven mad by bullying. Studies your mother cites don't exists. All the studies I've read about have failed to prove link between violence and fiction. It's like decade ago people believed porn would cause rape or like many people believe that guns cause violence. Pure panic with no basis on reality.

There is no balance, you either have freedom of speech or you don't.

What is wrong with this country? This is the #1 right in the Bill of Rights.  Wasn't the constitution supposed to be the law of the land?

probably a distraction tactic, or an attempt to get libertarian votes while doing nothing to support it.

Ron Paul (R-TX), is a member of that organization.  I've checked up on his voting record as well.  He is a great guy.  Actually, he ran for president in 1988 on the libertarian party ticket.

He was once the chair (or something like that) of the RLC.

While I agree with you, it's not as good as a real libertarian-libertarian, it's a step in the right direction.  Don't get me wrong, I support the libertarian party.
