Give me an effing break. The only lie George W. Bush ever told the people of this country was when he took the oath to uphold the Constitution of this country... Well, that was actually more of a broken promise, really.
You idiot democrats and liberals out there, I want to hear ONE LIE that Bush *intentionally told* to mislead the people about the war in Iraq... Just one! Nobody's been able to give a straightforward answer yet. I want to see quotes and sources...
He's not my favorite president in this country's history, but I'm tired of these people trying to make this war, which needs to be won, fail. Do you think he's lying because *you* think he lied? Or do you think he lied because the media keeps showing you politicians screaming it over and over?

This war will never be won. It's a hopeless quagmire. Just like Vietnam. Whether Bush lied or not is not the main issue. The main issue is that he should get our troops the hell out of Iraq. He doesn't have the courage to admit he made a mistake.

Funny, those are the exact words that the media and politicians run on constantly; 'quagmire', 'just like Vietnam'... You have no idea how well things are going over there. They have a new constitution, democratically held elections, new schools, we've disabled Saddam's weapons programs. And don't even start with that he didn't have any, because any idiot can see that he did. Hell, even Hillary's admitted that. Will the media tell you about the first concert of the Baghdad symphony orchestra? The higher standard of living? Newfound basic freedoms? Hell no, that would make George Bush look good. Don't get me wrong, he's fucked up alot of stuff, mainly with not protecting our borders.
But if you think this is an unjustified war, I hope you won't be saying the same thing when there's a coordinated attack of truck bombs being simultaneously set off around the country...

Vietnam voted for a communist government, the US will allow Iraq to vote for whoever they want and is complying with UN fully concerning the democractic process. Bush wants this to be a success and withdraw as quickly as possible, but without back stabbing the Iraqis he has promised freedom as other politicians seem to think he should do.

Well put. Popular Republicans and Democrats both initially supported the war and were backed by evidence from 3 different intelligence communities. Now everyone is eager to fold their hands, call it a failure, and pin blame on one man.
Furthermore, the only reason people compare it to Vietnam is that Vietnam was Americas single worst military failure in history so they'll try and make a connection to make this war look bad. Its stupid proganda, like calling Bush Hitler, saying Haliburton planned the war, or trying to claim 911 was done by the Jews. Wakeup and smell the paranoid bulls*** people.

Anyone who says we need to pull out of Iraq immediately is an idiot. While I'm aware that blanket statements are bad, I cannot help but feel that this is true. Why? Because if we pack up and leave before stabalizing the area we send a couple messages:
To the Iraqis: We don't keep our promises, and we we don't care what happens to you. (We go in, throw Mr Hussein out and say we're going to help them put a new government into place, failing to do so will only further anti-american sentiments in the general population. The last thing we need is more people who hate us with a passion.)
To our enemies: Guerilla warfare will defeat us. If you kill enough of our soldiers we will flee.
Do I support the war on Iraq? No, not really. Do I think that we need to finish what we start? Yes, definately.

The fact that this thread exists really saddens me. There's no need for primary sources, leaked documents and investigations, none of that will change your stifled viewpoint of history.
Just think back to the beginning of the war, you fucking sheep, think back to how afraid you were of Iraq's nuclear weapons, how the message that we were going to be nuked any day now was bashed into our heads by the media. It's not about what happened, it's about how it happened.
The United States was told that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and that the only way to stop Iraq from using them was to invade the country. Did Bush say that we were going there to get Iraqis to vote? To take the masks off women? To teach little boys how to read? Hah, you think America would have fallen for that bullshit? Half the world lives under the conditions Iraq lived under, would we have invaded those countries too?
The United States population invaded Iraq under the notion that they had nuclear weapons and that by invading them we were protecting ourselves. If your memory is that flawed, and you've been that much re-wired by the media, then there's nothing anyone can do for you, and I'm sorry.
Thousands of American soldiers and many more thousands of enemy civilians have died in both wars. Both wars feature dubious foreign policy and avoidable holes in planning. Questions of scale are irrelevant; the comparison is as warranted now as it would be if another 50,000 troops died in Iraq. Nobody is saying that they are everywhere alike, but they share enough characteristics that to attempt to compare them is both valid and natural. The End.
People wilfully refuse to learn from history.

Everyone in the middle east is a suicide bomber, duh.
Where in that reply did you extract that I was a liberal? The part where I recalled the past accurately? I never stated that I was against the war, or that I believed we should pull out.
However, I do believe in honor of the lives lost to the war we should recognize for which reasons we are fighting it. Namely, to protect our country.
After all, no one likes to fight a war without a good cause, right? And that's exactly what this entire 'debate' is about.

If you repeat something long enough it becomes true. For instance, over half the country believed that Iraq was responsible for 9/11 (... you think it's true don't you? lol). Who's responsible for that one? Might not be one man called dubya, but he and his cronies certainly had a hand in it. The promotion of that propaganda is what lead to this war. Alas, it is the Democrats' fault for not calling bullshit, but hell I wouldn't want to be "unpatriotic" either.
A "war on terror" is like a "war on drugs." Yeah, I'm sure some media person spouted that first, so? Does it make it less true? It's a war that CAN'T be won, as long as people are human. Although I'm sure brown shirts like you know the SOLUTION.

Why does that frighten you? But more importantly what does that have to do with this thread?

That's wrong. If we have learned anything at all after thousands of years of barbaric hatred, misunderstanding, and prejudice, it's that war is not fought to be won, it's fought to war. The United States government could end the attacks today if they wanted, but we just love the battle too much.

Look at it this way. Why was this war necessary? Just because US had laxed security a few buildings blew up. What does it have to do with a country half way across the world whose government fell in less than a month? Where were all those terrorists then? There are more of them there now than ever before. Sounds like a winning plan to me.
This war needs to be won. Fine. How? Until that's answered convincingly people are going to be shitting and screaming over our own being killed. As I recall in the US people are allowed to criticize anything.

the problem with radicals like you is that everything's black and white. for instance: traditional news media is opinionated (ie you don't like what they say). so let's disregard any facts that have presented in the past. they're credibility is instantly null and void. right wing radio on the other hand presents "facts" (ie you like what they say). it all makes sense now.

I know what I want, therefore I'm a radical. I don't know what kind of wishy-washy world you like to live in, bub, but in actual reality, there are ONLY black and whites. People don't "kind of" get shot in the head. If you leave your girlfriend in the back seat of a car that's sunk in 4 feet of water and then run away for fear of your political future, she won't just "kind of" drown. Madmen that have PROVEN that they have weapons of mass destruction and have ACTUALLY USED THEM ON THEIR OWN PEOPLE don't just "SORT OF" HAVE THEM OR DON'T HAVE THEM. It's like you left-tards have some sort of allergy of the truth. Reality is black and white, and I pity you for trying to make excuses in order to escape it...

Black and White. Here we go. Couple of "sand niggers" knocked down some buildings. Ergo ALL "SAND NIGGERS" SHOULD DIE. That's black and white. You as a rightwing nut must represent ALL AMERICANS (apologies to non-US Americans). That is reality. LAWD. Thinking people know what you want as well and we won't let it happen.
Just to be facetious, people can "kind of" get shot in the head. It's called getting grazed. And that girlfriend drowning example... what the hell is wrong with you... anyway she might be recessitated with CPR. I don't think Madmen can prove anything. Just like you can't prove anything. See the connection?
Boo hoo they USED it on their own people. I like you mix up the past and present to again fail to prove anything.

It wasn't the reason. He was planning to retire long before that ever happened. It just made it happen sooner.
And now, as for the lies Bush has told...
This one, I hope I don't need to have links, cause this is very current and well-known info.
"We do not torture"
Yet, we have over 200 dead from torture, and the only bill that Bush is vetoing ever in the history of his time in office is a bill that would ban "cruel, inhuman or degrading" treatment of prisoners in U.S. custody.
And, to just list a few others...
When bush has the goverment drug and health site change data on the usage of condoms to state that they are compleatly inifective. Happened in the very begining of his first term.(and if he actully believes that, well, thats just sad)
The staged news-reports leaked into the media that the Bush administration made that lied about thier policys.
The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.

I remember that. They posted a blurry picture of a pipe on a truck and said that there were millions of these with nuclear missiles pointed at America and we fell for it because we were still in terror over the recent 9/11 thing. America is stupid because people like me didn't call bullshit when they suggested that Americans needed to drop dead in order to prevent more Americans from dropping dead. Cognitive dissonance.
>>52
Way to bump a five year old thread! before I died in another pointless desert war.
You mean you died already once before? How are you here to type this? I guess in a way you're correct; soldiers don't exactly ever "come back" from a war even when they survive. >>53 They posted a blurry picture of a pipe on a truck and said that there were millions of these with nuclear missiles pointed at America and we fell for it because we were still in terror over the recent 9/11 thing.
At best, they were probably pipe bombs, and it wasn't unheard of for the Saddam regime to use them against people they didn't like. If the reasons for going after Iraq were framed because of their human rights abuses instead of the lie that they had WMDs, I might feel a bit differently about the whole thing, but not by too much, probably. Also, on a slightly different topic, there needs to be an actual alternative to NATO for when it gets out of control.
before I died in another pointless desert war. You mean you died already once before?
You don't get that ambiguous sentence thing, do you? (Or are you trolling?)
He's saying "before there was yet another pointless war for the army to send me to, so that this time I'd get killed".

I was being sarcastic (I guess I should have put "/sarcasm" in spoiler tags, but that would break up the flow) since I had later wrote I guess in a way you're correct; soldiers don't exactly ever "come back" from a war even when they survive.
