How to get rid of Christianity?

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-01 2:16

I don't think there are very many people who would disagree with me, that Christianity is one of the stupidest things that people still believe in the modern era.  It has lead to many problems, a lot of political hoopla, and possibly even a war in the middle east.

So, how can we get rid of it?  Do you think that there's a possibility it's already dying out?  Would that be a good thing if it did?

Christianity is the root of all the world's evils!!!11!111!1111 LOL

Personally, I think most of the Christian morals are worth following, but the way they push religion into every aspect of life these days from court rooms to class rooms is, to put it lightly, just a pain in the ass. The most powerful country the world has ever seen is falling behind due to this ridiculousness. They're pretty damn selfish. The Christian agenda, as I've heard it, is to inform every living person about the salvation of Christ. It doesn't matter if they buy it, but as soon as that happens something called a Rapture happens. All the Christians will be gone then. My guess though, is that their overpopulation agendas and (intentional or not) support of the neo-cons will leave this world a shit hole before they go. Assuming that happens at all, if not it'll be a shit hole + all the Christians will still be here. They might not say it, or even realize it, but Christians are supposed to want this world to end.

So no, it won't be dying out. With education getting a kick in the nuts, you can be sure the stupidity, the ignent and the superstitious will be on the rise.

With all due respect, stop lumping the vast, vast, vast majority of christians with a few nutcases. The Rapture is something a few bible-thumpers in the US believe, but guess what? It's completely unknown outside the US, and probably unheard of by most US christians outside the Bible-Belt.

It's a total stupidity by some protestant reject sect caused by two idiot preachers preaching to sheep in the US. That's where it started, and that's where it has stayed.

People complain about Christians imposing their views on people.
Personally, I've seen more atheists try to impose their views on me.

Everyone needs to just sit down and take a chill pill.

I've been tucked away in the South for a while, so I didn't know that it was a only Bible-belt phenomenon. Regardless, those Bible-thumpers are in control now and I don't hear any other Christian groups opposing their radical take on things.

>Personally, I've seen more atheists try to impose their views on me.
I'd like to know what you mean by "impose."

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-02 0:45

I don't hear any other Christian groups opposing their radical take on things

What are they supposed to say? "Stop that"?

They probably just want to be left alone. The problem is that most christians are very moderate, probably the kind that show up to church only on Christmas. They can't understand the nutcases, and really don't want to be involved with whatever insanity the Rapture types come up with.

Or they just move. If I were them, I'd rather be somewhere else.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-02 1:25

They might try getting across the message of what their view is, if they have one. Otherwise the radicals have us all beat. Kind of like how Republicans are perceived as having a message, where as Democrats? The answer certainly isn't sit back and do nothing.

Under your reasoning churches should be empty most of the time. And that's just not the case. Around here just about every church is expanding their buildings or just flat out building new ones, mega-churches, that might rival cathedrals in size (not in style though).

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-02 3:01

Under your reasoning churches should be empty most of the time.

Well, even the ones who do attend chuch around here don't talk about it, nor do they most places I've lived (seven countries around the world and counting). Nowadays, most christians consider religion a private affair. I think I've only had one person in the past ten years try to discuss religion with me, and that was a Jehovah's Witness (and they weren't trying to push anything either).

So, even if they attend weekly, they're not making a big deal out of it. Most sane people don't make a deal out of it. I go to the toilet too, wanna know the details?

Around here just about every church is expanding their buildings or just flat out building new ones,

I can't discuss the religious fervour being displayed over there since I'm thankfully not there, but from the outside what I see looks rather sick. I used to flip those mega-church broadcasts from the US on Canadian TV, and I really have to wonder about those people. That and their beliefs and actions being incongruous.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-02 6:28

The honest is truth is that the vast majority of Christians are lumped in with the extremists.

Every religious group (including atheists) have extremists, people who take it too far. They are the kind of people who make posts about how horrible x-religion is or y-philosophy, and how everyone should immediately stop worshiping/thinking that way and convert to their thought.

Getting back on point, if Christianity were followed as it was intended to be, there would be no war, rape, robbery, etc. I mean the general gist of Christianity is "Wouldn't it be great if we all got along?" Unfortunately in certain areas of the world, the philosophy has became "If this person doesn't think the way I do then he is immediately going to hell." or some close approximation to that. This is what truly gives religion a bad name, most specifically Christianity, and Islamicism (sp?).

As far believing goes, its a matter of faith and personal belief and I'm pretty sure that if you ask a Christian why they believe what they do, its usually a very vague answer. The reason why is because its something based mainly on a gut feeling on what you know is right. Blegh. I'm rambling. >>Posts<<

Or indoctrination since birth...  That's the worst thing about christianity, is that people's outlook on the universe is set at birth and they never think about it any other way, because you're not supposed to question faith.

My friends, who were all christian, after a while of not going to church suddenly felt the urge to go, the need to sit in a pew for an hour on sunday.  I asked them why and they couldn't give an answer.  So I went with them and was bored out of my fucking head, vowed never to go back.

Why did they suddenly feel this need?  It wasn't because of any philosophical drift from god almighty...  It was almost autonomic.

"The reason why is because its something based mainly on a gut feeling on what you know is right."

Pretty much sums my feelings up pretty well.
As far as indoctrination goes, my family has never been particularly religious - They believe in the concept of God, but it is very rarely brought up.

In regards to conversion (or pushing my religion on others if you prefer), if someone I know expresses interest in Christianity I'll go with it, but otherwise I don't push it - As far as I'm concerned, cornering someone in a parking lot and throwing religious pamphlets at them does little more than give people a negative impression of the religion and it's followers (as can be seen often on the internet).

Speaking of giving people a negative impression, I've actually known a couple people who outright refuse to associate with atheists, which I consider to be... slightly amazing.

I hate to point out, but this happens with most things. Your mind is very close to tabula rasa when you're born. So, what do you learn?

We learn what our parents deemed appropriate. This has nothing to do with religion, science, or the cow on the moon.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-03 5:32

Something I've noticed is that many people who try converting Christians do it the entirely wrong way, and are wrong themselves. They say "Become a Christian or go to hell."

They basically say you need to do the right thing out of fear of punishment. Thats not what Christianity is about, you do the the right thing out of love for God and your love of fellow man. To put it in 4chan terms, you should do the right thing because you are a gay for God.

you're an idiot, there is a ton of stuff we wouldn't have if it weren't for christianity.

Calculus, for example, probably wouldn't exist. Christianity covers such a broad range of ideas and people, of course there's a lot of stupid concepts and idiots in there but there's a lot of good shit too. It's only until fairly recently (19th century) that all the great philosophers and scientists started dissassociating themselves with the religion... and even then, many modern scientists still are deists or spiritualists of some form or another.

now, to be specific, fundementalist/pentacostal christianity... now THAT is retarded.

Yeah, that's true.  We all want God to be on our side.  But, that's not always the case.  God may not always agree with us because we do not always know what is best for us.  When God does not agree with us, Christians, or anyone else for that matter, can't do anything because He is God and we are just people and there is nothing that we can do about it.

How can you believe that these scholarly advancements could only have occured under christianity?  I'll give you that people became obsessed with it, and that drove them forward.  There are a lot of things out there that could obsess people, and human behavior is naturally adjusted towards probing and discovery. We didn't need any fucking dumbass mythology give us a reason.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-16 22:09 (sage)

We didn't need any fucking dumbass mythology give us a reason.

No. We don't need private industry either, we could have also achieved everything under Communism. Just a lot slower.

Having said that, while Christianity gave rise to what is now the university system, it did a lot to hold us back. Net result: none.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-20 14:17

I think all religion in general is a mental disease and should go away. think about it- muslims - their prophet muhammad, said he saw a vision after sitting in a cave for 9 months w/out food and water, what was it hulucinations from dehidration? Bad mushrooms? who knows, but what he did has managed to create untold termoil and death. And cristians wtf adam and eve? that not even possible, two people can not breed a population it's called inbreeding (think charles the II) - same problem with noahs arch. and if gods so forgiving and loves everybody, and he has the power to make everything better in he little toe nail why dosent he? Plus they were a huge factor in one of the worst periods in human history- the dark ages (for you information, people tore up roman roads because they were made so well, people thought they were made by witches. And the crap they caused. The spanish inquisition, the crusaded, Salem. Also one of adam and eves kids married someone not their brother/sister/parent. Where did they come form? who knows? and if they didnt, i think banging you sibilings is against the bible. I think religions had good intentions with fake anacdotes that ppl took way to serously and over time began to beleive. (the best eaxmple is confucinasim, which isn't a "religion" just a good meaning set of beleifs (for those times) that hasnt been warped). And all these cristian ethecis zomg stemcells. SO WHAT if a few .4 month olds die and dont know it to cure cancer and help/save untold people. Sorry for the huge post- i just feel strongly.

The odor of farts comes from small amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans in the mixture. These compounds contain sulfur. Nitrogen-rich compounds such as skatole and indole also add to the stench of farts. The more sulfur-rich your diet, the more sulfides and mercaptans will be produced by the bacteria in your guts, and the more your farts will stink. Foods such as cauliflower, eggs and meat are notorious for producing smelly farts, whereas beans produce large amounts of not particularly stinky farts.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-21 8:13

On average, a person produces about half a liter of fart gas per day, distributed over an average of about fourteen daily farts.
Whereas it may be difficult for you to determine your daily flatus volume, you can certainly keep track of your daily numerical fart count. You might try this as a science fair project: Keep a journal of everything you eat and a count of your farts. You might make a note of the potency of their odor as well. See if you can discover a relationship between what you eat, how much you fart, and how much they smell.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-25 11:26

Why get rid of it?  I'm not Christian however I see how it helps others in their daily lives; it's assuring to have the faith in something.  Sure it annoys me when someone tries to "preach" to me about how I should be a believer but they can't change my mind and that's all that matters to me.  I do think that the Christian population is "shrinking" and will eventually lose its popularity as the current and future generations evolve.  I wish I could live on to see it happen. ;)

Don't change these.
