Because murders and shootings certainly don't happen in any other country, no.

In other Western countries, it's not quite of the same frequency, no.

Are we desensitized yet? The headlines are starting to state the shooting locations rather than the shooters names... It has a bigger effect this way. People only care because they have the TV on.

And it's about time that they started to do that.

It's not about desensitization, it's about not giving attention to the shooter. The ridiculous nature of the past few shootings, by having their photos paraded and their names martyred, are exactly the kinds of reporting that incentivizes others.

Don't worry, the next one will have a record breaking kill-count highlighted in the article, with the face of the mysteriously misunderstood, but still horrific, shooter blasted on us from all fronts. Just for some good views.

Exactly this. A lot of people still wonder why Columbine happened. My reading through that whole situation over the years lead me to only one conclusion as to why they (Eric and Dylan) did: fame. Now they're practically immortalized and are household names. Columbine is the benchmark for all other school (and at this point, non-school) shootings.

The media of course won't stop doing this. Because ratings and exposure are much more of a priority.

They didn't do it JUST for fame, although it was one of their goals.

Well, no. They did it for a lot of reasons, but fame I think is ultimately what motivated them to actually go through with it. If they thought that they weren't going to become famous from it, what would be the point?

Don't change these.
