The ridiculous nature of the past few shootings, by having their photos paraded and their names martyred, are exactly the kinds of reporting that incentivizes others.
Exactly this. A lot of people still wonder why Columbine happened. My reading through that whole situation over the years lead me to only one conclusion as to why they (Eric and Dylan) did: fame. Now they're practically immortalized and are household names. Columbine is the benchmark for all other school (and at this point, non-school) shootings.
The media of course won't stop doing this. Because ratings and exposure are much more of a priority.
