Best bass setup for 1-1/2 tuning

Name: Anonymous 2011-05-19 21:43

I've joined a new band, but they tune their guitars down a full step and a half. So now my bass is the same (Db, Gb, B, E), but the strings are just slack as fuck.

In their own words they want the bass "punchier", to "ring out more".

I've gone back to a standard gauge, but even these are a slack. (Not as bad as the lights I had on before, but bad enough that it annoys me). I've messed around with the bridge and pickup heights too.

I'm not expecting mircles or anything, but was wondering if you had any tips. Different gauge of strings? Asjusting the bridge/pickup heights more? Changing the neck a bit? Anything really.

Amp wise I think I've managed to squeeze out the best sound I can, but the slackness effects my actual playing.

Is it just that I'm not used to playing this far tuned down? and eventually I'll "get used to it"?

If so, I don't think I want to get used to it... feels horrible.

Anyway, thanks,

Any bass will be good for tuned down you dumbass, just make sure to get it properly setup and adjusted by a pro luthier or do it yourself

Probably higher gauge strings would be a plus. I play guitar I know this shit. I'm the second post also

Third post, are you retarded? Why the fuck did you mess with the pickups. That will do nothing with the slackness of your strings. Stop messing with shit and take it to a tech since you obviously have no idea what in the dikcs you are doing

>>2 I know any bass will sound good tuned down, but I'm trying to find out HOW to get mine sounding good.

>>3 Yeah, I ordered some the other day. Hopefully it will help.

>>4 I know the pickup height wont change the slackness idiot. I'm trying to get it sounding better in general. I had a problem with the strings actually hitting the pickups at first, hence the hight change. Had to adjust the bridge to stop the strings constantly buzzing on the frets too.

I'm just asking for any general tips on adjusting it, if any. Anything obvious I'm missing. I know I could take it to someone to sort out, but that's going to cost money. Money I don't have.

Okay, listen to how a guitar bridge works scrub.
The screws that are at the end of the bridge there should be four.
That is your intonation, how tuned the guitar is at the 12th fret.
Second, if your strings are slacking a lot you HAVE TO PUT HIGHER GAUGES YOU FUCKING SCRUB.
Third, you will need to adjust your truss rod and bridge. Google truss rod. To do the bridge you have to get an allen key the size of your bridge and adjust it to the action good enough for you. probably higher would be better.

TLDR. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING DON'T TOUCH IT.

Don't change these.
