For creating French house as we know it, Thomas Bangalter should be canonised as the patron saint of dance music.

Daft Punk is for people who think they like techno, and who have issues with their own sexuality.
Although they did make an animated music video collection by Leiji Matsumoto, "Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem." That's kind of notable. I guess.

You obviously wouldn't know techno if it shat in your mouth. Daft Punk don't make techno music, they make French House and occasionally slow down into Electronica. You might as well criticise the Mars Volta for not being a good punk band.

I suppose all techno from France should be critised in that case.. If you listen to more of the electronic genre from Paris area, you'll note that most songs are Daft Punk'ish. Honestly, its a genre of its own.. Very repetetive and disco tech.
I'll be honest I enjoy the Waves compilations put out by Daft Punk's front man from time to time. But yes I do agree that the music leaves something to be desired.
Again: Electronic != Techno. French Techno does sound very slightly more housey than, say, Swedish Techno, but it's still very very un-Bangalteresque. It's hard, synthetic and percussion-heavy, pretty much the absolute antithesis of Daft Punk's filtered and re-filtered guitar-funk.
Parisian HOUSE does mostly sound quite like Daft Punk, probably because Thomas Bangalter made about three quarters of it. It's also rather good, as long as you don't expect anything much more than populist, dancefloor-friendly house.
Not all electronic music is techno. Techno is used by some people as a catch-all term for anything that doesn't have guitars in it, but that isn't what it means. Modern techno is usually made up of short loops of heavy, sythesised percussion and very little in the way of melody. For example: Thomas Krome, FLR (a Ken Ishii side project), Speedy J, Adam Beyer. It's a very distinctive, and not particularly popular, style of music. It is also a million miles away from daft punk.
Well, Bangalter can write, but takes some of early Electro-funk from the 70's and breathes new life into it... He's really great!
I love how he's pretty much created the French House scene too. He's influenced a nice little record studio here in Canada called Eyezcream Recordings... Ever heard of Dave Armstrong? Make Your Move? Remixed by some of the greats (Clamaran, Basoski). Huge here in Canada.
Don't forget about Daft Punk's new album coming out soon too!
