If your American and your grandmother Irish, why do you consider yourself Irish-american? surely you are American?

Or is the American part not as fashionable? personally, even though i have an american mother and an English father (I carry both passports) and now live in the states, I class myself as English as that is where I grew up.

Irish is not a race, it is a nationality, what really is  ridiculous! is have any of these "Irish Americans" had ever actually to Ireland!

Irish people up until the modern era have shared a common ancestry. This common ancestry is marked by several unique haplogroups, genes and alleles which determine physical and mental traits.

When you have an obviously Irish last name, the identity kind of sticks a bit.  Then there's St. Patrick's Day which is a big party day in the US for everyone to enjoy.
