So here's my understanding of Buddhism. Buddha was a prince who left his princely life to search the end of dukkha(suffering/dissatisfaction/etc). He meditated and then found that in order for one to cease the dukkha, he must first understand the problem. He understood that dukkha was caused by unnecessary attachment to the illusory self/ego. He understood that inorder to get rid of it, you must have the right attitude/understanding/concentration/etc of the world view. He also understood that understanding those alone wont help and that you must also realize it(meditate).
How close am I to Buddhism?

Buddhism is a religion or philosophy inspired by the 5th century B.C. teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Gautama Buddha "the enlightened one"). Buddhism focuses on the goal of spiritual enlightenment centered on an understanding of Gautama Buddha's Four Noble Truths on the nature of suffering, and on the Eightfold Path of spiritual and moral practice, to break the cycle of suffering of which we are a part. Buddhism ascribes to a karmic system of rebirth. Several schools and sects of Buddhism exist, differing often on the nature of the Buddha, the extent to which enlightenment can be achieved - for one or for all, and by whom - religious orders or laity.
Theravada Buddhism: The oldest Buddhist school, Theravada is practiced mostly in Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, and Thailand, with minority representation elsewhere in Asia and the West. Theravadans follow the Pali Canon of Buddha's teachings, and believe that one may escape the cycle of rebirth, worldly attachment, and suffering for oneself; this process may take one or several lifetimes.
Mahayana Buddhism including subsets Zen and Tibetan Buddhism: Forms of Mahayana Buddhism are common in East Asia and Tibet, and parts of the West. Mahayanas have additional scriptures beyond the Pali Canon and believe the Buddha is eternal and still teaching. Unlike Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana schools maintain the Buddha-nature is present in all beings and all will ultimately achieve enlightenment.

One day when Budda was walking down the road, somebody hit him in the face.
Buddas nose hurt, and he asked why this stranger had hit him.
"Because I like hitting stupid people." said the stranger.
"But it is not nice to other people." said Buddha.
"Fuck you!" said the stranger, and hit Budda in the face a second time. Now Buddas nose suffered even more.
"Stop hitting me!" Budda exclaimed.
"Is it your desire that I stop? That wouldn't be nice to me." said the stranger.
...and Budda was enlightened, and spent his whole day getting punched in the face by Laozi, founder of taoism.
"Mind precedes all knowables,
mind's their chief, mind-made are they.
If with a corrupted mind
one should either speak or act
dukkha follows caused by that,
as does the wheel the ox's hoof."

We're not mad. We're just enlightened. You go ahead and be buddist if it makes sense to you. There's nothing wrong with being a buddist.

I pissed on myself as I was making my way to the bathroom.
Buddhism is a cancer. In my daily life, Buddhists waste more of my time than even Christians do, now. There are two points people tend to make about Buddhism, both of which are bullshit, though for different reasons.
The first is that Buddhism is non-violent, which they only get away with because most people don't actually know anything about the history of Asia. It may be true that Buddhism as they practice it is
non-violent, but Christianity as a lot of people practice it and even Islam as a lot of people prac
tice it is equally non-violent in the exact same way, so it doesn't even bear pointing out.
The other point is that it's an atheistic religion, which is bullshit because it not only ignores Bu
ddhism as it is actually practised by the vast majority of actual Buddhists, but it also completely
ignores the spirit of atheism on a dubious technicality. The fact that (some) Buddhism technically d
oes not have a god but is instead a more straightforward personality cult does not mean Buddhists an
d actual atheists will automatically find a common ground, because Buddhism still entails as much of
f-the-wall lunacy as any god-having religion.
The usual response to this is ``Ah, but *my* Buddhism....'' followed by a whole lot of horse-shit, w
hich, to be fair, is sometimes actually equivalent to rationalist atheism clothed in obscurantist my
sticism. The obvious question to that is why you should bother with the mysticism at all, then, but
in fact, the discussion is the same as the ones about the nature of the Christian god you often have
with appeasers: the point is to keep God or Buddhism so ill-defined as to pre-empt any possible att
acks on it, and to hope that people won't notice that the completely ethereal God or Buddhism they w
ant you to attack doesn't actually have shit to do with the God or Buddhism people actually believe
in.
Not all of this bullshit has malicious intent; most Western Buddhists really are ignorant and/or con
fused enough to believe their own crap themselves. Ultimately, Buddhism nowadays ÔÇö at least the Bu
ddhism you see online; with offline Western Buddhists it's usually just celebrity worship or simple
exotism ÔÇö is like agnosticism in that it's just a way for simpletons to feel superior to both main
stream religious people and atheists without actually having to bother to look at any arguments, exc
ept that there's an odour of hipsterism or weeabooatry as well.
I have no patience for Buddhists.
