Well, now that the original thread is being spammed with K-ON macros I believe we should move the bulk of our conversations over to this text-only chat.

You guys fucking suck ass.

So proud over your shit "epic" thread filled with /a/ faggot lamers.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:11

due to the ageing population in Pittsburgh PA there are a lot of unused schools and oldfolks homes that im sure we could take over.

Agree.

So, just wondering, could everyone say what state they live in? I see one in Washington state, one in Oregon, two in Pennsylvania, and two in New York from the thread we have up. We need to get a basic head count up if we're going to be serious about this.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:12

I for one am more inclined to go with the school idea, there's plenty of room and plumbing, and some of the facilities at schools are rather nice.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:14

So how will we pay for utilities? Food, water, electricity, internet all cost money (a commodity I assume the majority of /jp/ lacks[or they have just spent it all in figs]).

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:16

I am in Pittsburgh as well.  I have a steady income, and basic survival skills, but because of said income I cannot venture very far.

That said, there is a wide range of cheap housing here.  Even if everyone gets their own room, housing can be as cheap as 300 dollars including utilities (at 25 MB/s internet).  And if you want/need it, there is a fair amount of part-time jobs.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:16

A lot of /jp/ claims to receive disability checks and probably a few can get unemployment. If I were to move out of the house, my parents would probably send me allowance to keep me out.

Someone said they can farm like a boss.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:18

So is that 3 for Pittsburgh so far?  I imagine that it will take awhile to accumulate people.  It probably would be best to find like 5-10, and rent a place accordingly.

I can farm like a boss. But i live in Argentina. I can get enoguh money to fly anywhere if im shown proof that something is beeing made. You would be housing an illegal inmigrant tough. I doubt "moving into /jp/ mansion" is a good reason for a Visa.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:22

I think, at most, 20 people would be on board with this project. Several have said they'd be willing to relocate (myself included). All we need is an abandoned structure, or structures, large enough to house roughly five to ten people.

If we go the single large building (capable of housing upwards of 20) route there will be many issues with maintaining the facilities - both costs and logistics.

We've seen abandoned towns in PA, which have multiple small buildings, but several potential drawbacks. Getting utilities running in these places that have been deserted for years would be VERY difficult.

The best solution would be one or two abandoned houses, OR a *smallish* abandoned school, hospital, hotel, etc. that is either within or nearby an urban center. This is a rather narrow field of possibilities, especially once cost of the location and repairs are factored in.

I'm assuming people are either willing to hold down shit jobs, or get govt. checks, which should cover the bulk of expenses like utilities and internet - it is my opinion that food should be the sole responsibility of each occupant (with obvious bulk ramen distributions).

The requirements for property tax exemption are available online, from the IRS website.

Also, I'm thinking that keeping the place clean and functioning ought to be the responsibility of every person - not just designated "maids". If you can't pitch in to pay the bills, wipe your piss off the seat, or throw away your own trash, you don't deserve the paradise of /jp/ mansion.

I would like to reiterate that going for abandoned properties is more often than not a mistake.

Usually things are broken or missing.  People break in and steal wiring and plumbing to places like that.  Oftentimes you find that there are major health hazards.  I have a nice insurance policy, but many probably don't.  At any rate, it would need thousands to tens of thousands in repairs for sure.  Many aren't even zoned for residence or up to code, so you could be kicked out and forced to sell it at any point.

It really is more trouble than it is worth.  Renting a biggish place and splitting bills is simply the better financial route, even over the span of a decade.  If it wasn't, you would see this sort of thing as much more commonplace.  Nobody buys these abandoned places except to tear them down and build a new place from scratch, and that is for good reason.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:29

ya there were a lot of PA ideas layed out in the pat threads.

Your way of thinking is to narrow, your aren't withdrawing yourself from society like that, just living with some random people from /jp/ who are probably quite a trick to live with.
The goal is not having to work, not having to study, beeing excempt from all the demans off normal life.

Now what did you expect.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:34

I personally have no problem handling going out to a store.  We'd need several people for this.  Best case, someone with a van.  Worst case, we'd have to walk.  I have a bike with a basket set, a few similar people could handle shopping easily.

I guess that's true. Besides the convienience and novelty that comes with a maid, what other positions of authority/responsibility /bureaucracy would be beneficial?

- Arbiters
- In-House Psychologist/Therapist

If we have a enough food from the farm to feed ourselves, raising bunnies isn't a hassle. They, by some strange coincidence, breed like rabbits, and provide lots of food. We could also skin them and make stuff with their fur.

What about welfare and the people who hold jobs?
I mean, it'd be nice to be "off the grid" or whatever, but realistically - there's a reason most of us don't think too highly of ourselves. What possible avenues of revenue generation could a mass of unmotivated, socially inept, largely unskilled people pursue?

Perhaps.  I personally am not one.  Although I am usually on the anti-social side with most people, I do like my work and my colleagues.  I personally think it would be a disaster to be so inclusive as to let everyone in who thinks it will be a free ride in.  If a person cannot at least pull some weight, they should probably stick with their parents.

If people are serious, they should know that this will take months at least to plan.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:47

so who wants to go urban exploring in Pittsburgh PA?

Sounds like your average walmart, we should all get tedious, easy jobs at grocery stores and shit, if enough of us got in at the same stores it'd have a really cool atmosphere too.

Legal issues are not easily solved by laypersons. We'd need someone with at least a basic understanding of legal processes pertaining to property acquisition, taxes, and contractual agreements.
- Food-stocks and Preparation
There are cuts of meat that are surprisingly cheap - just ask /fit/ for "lol how I bulk w. no mony" shopping lists.

>>149
- Acquisitions and Mergers
- Data Storage and Technology

>>143
I don't see any reason we need to find a place before we establish what skill-sets are needed. In fact, determining what is and isn't possible now may strongly effect the real estate.
For example: we couldn't easily farm or raise rabbits in a strictly urban setting. Similarly, who here knows how to skin, prepare, or cook rabbits?

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:53

>>174
Yup. That's the /jp/ I know. Let's all go work at Walmart.

Walmart is for mentally delayed people. I think that we are all too smart to work there. There must be a better way of making money.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:56

There isn't some way we could do this without the spammer, is there?

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:57

>>197
Well, they are interdependent.  That said, even for skilled people, these things are a lot of work.  It is far less work (and probably cheaper) to have a part-time job at Walmart and buy some cooked rabbit, than it is to raise it and cook it yourself.  This is why the economy is scaled the way it is.  I really liked the idea of having people work in the same/neighboring stores and just making it a cool atmosphere to work at.  Much better usefulness/effort ratio to just do things like that.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 1:59

>>217
Because although there won't be much asked of you, there needs to be some contribution to make this work.  It doesn't have to be much, but no community will work out if nobody does anything.  And short of family, few communities last with asymmetric workloads.
