units for the layman -- the houseboat

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-22 16:19

It is so hard for the ordinary man to comprehend the vast distances between the planets, or even the heights of great buildings.  It would be so much easier if we were given distances in terms of something familiar to all of us:  the houseboat (hb).  How tall is the mighty Empire State Building?  That thing is an amazing 82 houseboats high!

What would you measure volume in? Or would you still use litres?

Houseboats. A 2 liter bottle of soda is .00000018 fluid houseboats (or 1.8 picohouseboats).

Why not use soda bottles instead?

Because they vary wildly in size, duh.

I meant like a 2 litre soda bottle. Was I not clear?

So a 20 ounce soda bottle would be referred to as a ".4 soda bottle soda bottle"? That would be retarded.

Alright, I'll stick to metric.

I always knew you were a faggot, Bob.

Something wrong with the metric system?

Faggot detected.

I like the houseboat measurement. The size, weight, etc. of it is universally known, so it is fitting for a new unit of measurement. For example, I am 3/4 of a houseboat tall (estimated), that park is 12 houseboats wide, and so on.

3/4 of a houseboat tall
That would make you 11.4 feet tall by OP's definition.

Perhaps if the Americans switched to a system that makes any sense they wouldn't have to count in houseboats.

the metric is a faggot system, useful only for science and precision engineering.

A) it was invented by the french.  They are all baby-eating smelly faggots

B) it is not a natural system. its not in harmony with the human body, unlike the imperial/british system which is based on measurments using the body of a reasonable sized man - ie feet, yards (stride), fathoms etc, and an imperial unit applies itself well to common manual tasks - eg carpentry, baking cakes, etc

Interesting point, I see the error of my ways.

I wholeheartedly dislike the frogs.

Nice boat.

Listen here, jerkface.  Science and engineering are the manliest of pursuits, and I don't know what fantasies you entertain of cock-assery in your head, but they must be very lengthy.  Next, they do not eat babies in France, and never have, so you can put that crazy prejudice aside, mister.

I don't know who you are, but I am certain that you are not of this planet. Which begs the question, what are you?

I'm not saying they are not, but to have the metric system shoved up my ass every time i go the supermarket or try and buy some wood or follow a recipe i want easy units suited to these general non-precision tasks

Fair enough -- if a man wants to build a houseboat, he should be able to ask for a houseboatload of wood.

Don't change these.
