It is so hard for the ordinary man to comprehend the vast distances between the planets, or even the heights of great buildings.  It would be so much easier if we were given distances in terms of something familiar to all of us:  the houseboat (hb).  How tall is the mighty Empire State Building?  That thing is an amazing 82 houseboats high!

A) it was invented by the french.  They are all baby-eating smelly faggots

B) it is not a natural system. its not in harmony with the human body, unlike the imperial/british system which is based on measurments using the body of a reasonable sized man - ie feet, yards (stride), fathoms etc, and an imperial unit applies itself well to common manual tasks - eg carpentry, baking cakes, etc
