Hey.

So, I've been thinking about how the imageboards and the (apparently unmoderated) text BBS are run. It's all in the moderators' and administrators' hands.

But what if we changed that? What if we simply took an anonymous BBS with modifications that allowed users to be largely auto-moderating?

Suppose that each post has three buttons available for users, delete, delete + ban, ban. Each of them has a different voting threshold. I.e., for a deletion, you'd need like ten votes for removal, for a ban twenty. The ban count will be kept for each ID over multiple posts. Delete + ban would add one to the posts' delete count and one to the ID's ban count. Note that these counts time out after two hours, so that there's no way to abuse the system by going on a "deletion" spree, kicking all the ancient one-from-deletion posts off or ban dynamic IPs that have long changed.

What do you think about this? Implementing that wouldn't be too hard looking at kareha.

But what about proxies?

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-14 1:02

It would be too easy to abuse.

It depends on the community.

A responsible community like /prog/ probably would weed out the abusers before they're done trolling. Getting it to work with anonymity is difficult and as soon as we start identifying users by other things than IDs, anonymity is entirely lost.

Given enough DNSBLs, the proxies should be the least of our worries. Possibly some cron job to keep .htaccess updated?

It enables too much favoritism.

fucking control freak

It would lead to abuse. With all the VPSes, shell accounts, proxies, &c, it would become a nightmare after some time. Honestly, what is needed is more, much more moderation. Now, I know the imageboards are pretty much beyond repair, but to moderate world4ch takes one-tenth the time and effort comparable to the imageboards. What's needed the most is Shiichan's internal administration tools need optimization and updating.

I don't like the idea of democratic banning, but deleting might work out.

Make me a mod and I will ban all of you. Every last one.

Back to /b/ please.

I'm not sure how moderation works down here. I don't think proper moderation around here isn't too hard with the current amount of traffic. All it takes is some level head.

No banning for any reason.
The written word should never be banned on a site that has an age limit and disclaimer that states "Anyone who takes anything seriously or as the truth on this troll board is an idiot"

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-15 2:57

Currently things are still full of trolls that make good communication impossible, especially on board with a clear direction.
