wtf is this shit, these new episodes are getting even more lame, latest one is a perfect example (Once Upon a Time in Springfield) I'm not sure if I can even be bothered downloading this crap anymore.

something drastic needs to be done with this show too, kill off all the lame characters like the van houtens, indian octromom & lisa.

Sounds like it has "jumped the shark." Though I hear Simpsons fans say that it had done that after about season 12 or so.

It's a sad empty shell of its former self

More like season 8. Simpsons haven't been good since forever!

Well, it depends on which Simpsons fan you talk to. Some have told me season 8, some 9, sometimes 12, or even as far as 14. From my observation so far, there doesn't seem to be an agreed upon time where The Simpsons jumped the shark among its fans.

It started to drop in quality around season 9 when they became more lolrandum XD.  It's been average at best with a few good episodes here and there ever since

I don't know which season is which but things started getting shit since that episode where Homer builds a wall in Springfield to separate classes or something. Or the one where the dolphins take over the town.

It only got considerably gayer after that.

Really what happened to the simpsons is they started attempting to appeal to a younger audience's tastes. People who wouldn't know about the "jumping the shark" episode of happy days. People who didn't care about jokes being made in the context of a coherent storyline, they just wanted jokes.

I haven't bothered with the Simpsons for years now, but back when I still cared, I felt that it was getting progressively surreal in order to attract the South Park/Family Guy crowd, rather than banking on good dialogue. The show was also genius for its use of one-dimensional characters at the right time and leaving it at that. But when they start having Disco Stu as a recurring character, and make episodes entirely dedicated to the Sea Captain and Gil, something has gone very wrong.

Don't change these.
