Hey guys, I made this topic earlier in /b/ and would like to know what you guys think:
It's a vicious cycle. Everyone's calling the people acting like newfags newfags. So we're calling those people newfags. Eventually people will be calling us newfags as the hierarchy of meme'dom progresses.
And you know, that's sadly the trend of most of /b/. People spend too much time bitching about regurgitated memes and who's new, yet still don't do anything to create their own content. When other people do, they're suddenly newfags because /b/ "died on some certain date" according to some fag site like ED.
So in essence, creative minds who attempt original content are held back by the true newfags.
Here's where I'm going with this. I want an absolutely serious discussion about /b/. "It's sooo terrible," yet you keep coming back. So what do you want? Don't you realize it's up to you, the poster, to mold this?
So I ask you. what would YOU, as nothing more than an Anonymous poster with a contribution, do to make your experience better?
Serious discussion please, so try to ignore the flames.
------
It had a lot of response, which surprised me. If you want my opinion, I think more emphasis on the text boards and actually ENFORCING the under 18 rule (in the applicable boards) would be an amazing step in the right direction. Perhaps even a 'General' imageboard. As a poster I can not do this, obviously, so it's simply a quiet hope.
Feel free to offer your own thoughts, as I believe the text boards are a great medium for this type of discussion.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Im gunna use this board now.

Cant we all just email moot and ask him to do this? I'm sure that if he saw the thread on /b/ he would think about it.

Seeing intelligent response in /b/ led me to believe there was hope. I would love moot to see peoples suggestions, even if it is just on the characteristics of 4chan in general - and not just the suggestions to make it better.
Though more text board visitors would be awesome!

You did it to yourselves by calling newfags, newfags they just try
to fit in so they find old content and renew it HAHAHA i laugh at your stupidity

I dont like the style of the text boards.....
other than that, there needs to be massive B&hammering agian

>>6 you get used to the style and pace pretty fast. they're not bad at all once you get a feel for them.

Really? I actually quite like this style

I came from the other topic, and I agree that we should all probably give this board more attention. /b/ is getting to crowded with newfags and bitchy oldfags. I don't think many of them know this board exists.

Just leave it for a different board.

Seeing the text boards get more traffic is neat. I long for a day where I can see topics go at a pace that doesn't have me bored to tears in a matter of minutes.
It's even hard lurking around 2 days in a row with as much dust this board gathers.

Ok im the only one here .....like the rest of my life

OP here, anybody else have any thoughts? I think the most realistic idea as a *poster* is to promote more people to visit the text boards. They're severely underpopulated, and the discussions that can be had here would be much more welcome than on certain image boards.
Aside from that, maybe somehow proposing a trial board (ie, General Discussion imageboard) to moot isn't too far out of the question? I think having an imageboard of that nature would be a fantastic idea, and I also believe it would help weed out the influx of people trying to find a little sanity in /b/. Not to say /b/ would go to hell, but at least people who want to have serious *general* discussions wouldn't have to deal with massive trolling and the obvious newfaggotry that is rampant in the random board lately.
What are your thoughts?

This mans a genius! Lock him up in an asylum! Seriously though, good idea.

Well I'm not trying to be some naysayer, because honestly, the roots of 4chan are still strong, and this website is far from doomed. But I do think that a couple minor changes would be ideal for the community of this website- and it wouldn't sacrifice the true ideals of Anonymous either! (and no, I don't mean newfag raiders)
I suggest we encourage more people in other imageboards to visit the text boards. They really are a hidden gem in 4chan.
But honestly, if enough people think a General Discussion imageboard is a swell idea, maybe it wouldn't hurt to get a serious discussion on the topic.

There is only one flaw in your plan, that being that the text boards are fucking shitass.
I posted a lot in that thread on /b/ yesterday, and it made me decide to check out the text boards once again, haven't been here in so long.
There's not much I can say really, OP's said it all. There's an overwhelming amount of newfags in /b/ but the majority of the other boards are fine, /v/ is basically where the oldfags are anyway.
One thing I don't understand though, I'm all for the enforcing the 18+ rule but how would it be achieved?

Hm, it never even occurred to me that the text boards don't even have ads.

Still, having more promotion in the text boards wouldn't be a bad thing. It's about the only place where you can have an intelligent discussion. Newfags wouldn't want to come here because it's not flashy enough (images, etc), and people wanting to use an anonymous board to its fullest potential (in terms of discussion) would be more than welcome.
The fact that they don't show by default on the main page doesn't help!

I wonder if any mods regularly lurk the text boards. Or moot, even.

/b/ is now closed due to AIDS brought on by too many newfags
I kind of hate how /b/ has become now.. too many trolls. Yesterday I made this thread with a sort of long rant I made on the spot. And it got called copypasta by at least 10 people.. it pissed me off, because I had just wrote the damn thing. I'm 100% sure those dumb newfags had not seen that text before, yet they still called it a copypasta and called me a troll for ranting..
The point is, it's like they think everything is a repost of a repost, etc. even when it's brand new content.. why are they in that mentality? There's bound to be new content sooner or later, or the board would simply die from unoriginality. They sure as hell are not contributing by making new content of their own...
I'm going to come to the text boards more now. It would be nice to have more traffic in them, but I also like that it's not so crowded here.. That's how you can have more serious discussions without all the trolls and newfags following along and spamming it to hell. The text boards are seriously underrated and forgotten.

Exactly. /b/ is full of trolls and faggots. These text boards are a more nurturing environment for intelligent discussion.
text boards are made of win. newfags have short attention spans and won't be glued in by OMG PICTARZ N MEMES. Truly the hidden gem of 4chan, as someone mentioned earlier.

I'll be honest.. I'm kind of new to these text boards. I'm still getting the hang of things.
So.. there's trolls in here too?
Figures.. it wouldn't be 4chan without trolls, even here, eh? -____-;

There are trolls everywhere. Bridges and Dwarven Chambers of Records have no monopoly on trolls. The internet is one big troll upon Humankind. Embrace your inner troll and live. Peace out.

Main difference between text and imageboards is that trolls and non trolls have a place to be here. For text it's Lounge and News for VIP, but in imageboards, they're all thrown into /b/ to eternally bitch and moan with each other. Equilibrium will never be achieved.

Don't forget /v/. I think /v/ has an equal if not higher amount of trolls than /b/, lol.

Yeah, the "doesnt afraid of anything lolol" and "confirmed for brawl" took less than 5 minutes to be spammed all over /b/ when they originated, haha.
>>37
I gotta admit I love the "CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL" meme. It's kind of funny to me. :D The "is a pretty cool guy" meme is kinda stupid.
But yes.. that's my point. /v/= Troll land, LOL.
