So I went to make some pasta tonight, and I found what I think were weevils in my bowl.
"Eeeeeeeew!" I squealed like a little girl. "Vile beasts, get back!"
I checked the container I store my pasta in and they're crawling around in the bottom of it too. "How the hell did they get into a sealed container?"
Luckily I could only fit half of my pasta in the container when I opened it; the rest was stored in the rolled up packet in the fridge. I pulled it out and what's in the bottom? WEEEEEVILS!
So these weevils have infiltrated both my top secret pasta container, as well as a secure plastic wrapping facility hidden inside my fridge. I'm not so sure that's even possible, but I don't know weevils as well as you might. So what I'm asking is this: Is it likely that these critters were already in the packet when I opened it? Or did they get into my pasta container and fridge on their own?

Theres a very logical answer to this. The pasta was probably contaminated with weevil eggs when you bought it and they just happened to hatch at your house. I know I've bought several boxes of pastaroni at wal-mart and opened them only to find moths crawling in 'em.

Weevils are not insects, stupid. Weevils are mammals.

Aaaah, crap. That's what I was worried about. That just gave me a nasty feeling in my stomach.
I'd already used half the pasta in the container before I noticed them. That, and I have nothing left to eat. Shouldn't there be some kind of inspection before they sell insects in food? This was Reputable™ pasta, not cheapo house brand stuff.
I'm sure it doesn't matter in the great scheme of things, but yuk! Bugs!

The FDA has regulations on how many weevils per package are allowed. Look it up.

You've got weevils in my pasta. You've got pasta in my weevils.
Hmmm....
Reese's weevil pasta. Two great tastes that taste great together.

They're just bugs. And if you cooked the pasta properly, just think of it as added protien.
