So all anime fanboys I know are faggots. And up to now I hated anime. And Dragon Ball Z sucks. But I thought to myself, if so many /b/tards like that stuff, there has to be something to it.

it depends on your tastes really... if you watch any TV series or if there are any movies you like that would help. Its true though, most people ive ment who like the stuff are fags, or lifeless. I enjoy one or two series but i cant say im obsessed with it... its decent entertainment when theres nothing better to watch (a once or twice a week thing).
Id recomend you watch the Full Metal Panic series (full metal panic!, FMP? Fumoffu, and FMP: the second raid (in that order, skip fumoffu if you dont like the comedy parts of the first season)).

Try Chobits. It got me into anime. It got a friend who hated it into anime. It got my younger brother who thought anime was kiddy into anime. It got my parents to watch anime. It got my friend's parents to watch anime.
It's a beautiful story, which gets to be pretty serious and mature by the end, while it's loaded with hilarious situations and dialogue.

I watched full moon la de da anime and thought it was fairly pants after watching about 5 episodes. The songs annoyed me; the whole series seemed over sentimental.
Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist, Monster, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach, Berkserk (you'll have to read the manga as well for the whole story), Any Macross, Beck, etc.

Some good entry-level anime are Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura, perhaps Bleach.
Naruto, FMA and Bleach are 'shonen' genre, meaning shows that are targeted mainly at boys aged maybe 10-15, but they're exciting action stories with long-running plots and character development that can be appreciated by a much wider audience. Cardcaptor Sakura - significantly better in its original Japanese form than in the abomination that is its English language dub, 'Cardcaptors - is a show that although targetted at girls, can be appreciated by guys and older viewers.

My first real anime was Dragonball GT. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than DBZ and DB in America. After that, though, was Ranma 1/2. I highly recommend Ranma, as not only is it awesome, but it's an anime classic, and it's where all the anime-with-fat-panda jokes and spoofs came from.

Do not watch Evangelion until you have seen a good amount of anime. Too many people watch Eva first and then come out of it like "what". You need to do this shit in stages.
Save Eva for when you have seen at least a dozen separate series.
