Dead Languages

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 10:01

So the jewish folk managed to resurrect hebrew from the dead. If you could bring a dead language back to life whihc would it be and why? I guess latin would be rather useful. Decoding old manuscripts and such like.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 14:22

Classical Chinese. It cannot be spoken, but at least write it!

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 14:30

Latin. Well, Latin is still used in some cases, but it's mostly dead in regards to day-to-day life.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 15:31

Sumerian. Fuck yeah.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 16:01

A language we know little to nothing about, like Etruscan or Thracian. Maybe even one of the languages that must have been used in Europe before the arrival of Indo-European languages.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-27 20:35

None, they died off for a reason.

Pāli, which like Latin, is basically only used in a liturgical sense, being  the language that the oldest Buddhist texts are written in.

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-25 2:31

shut sauce

Koine Greek
Sanskirt

Latin is nothing compared to these languages.

Also it's kind of false that Hebrew was revived.  They constructed a language that it some ways resembles ancient hebrew but you'd be surprised at how different modern hebrew is comparatively.

Pāli would be nice.  There is a lot of native Buddhist text written in sanskirt though and as I understand the two languages are similar to an extent.

I disagree. For me, the "top 5" are
Classical Latin,
Attic Greek,
Old Chinese,
Sanskrit and
Quranic Arabic.

These five langs are called "CLASSICAL LANGUAGES" for a reason.

>Also it's kind of false that Hebrew was revived.  They constructed a language that it some ways resembles ancient hebrew but you'd be surprised at how different modern hebrew is comparatively.
Not so many if you look language's structure. But yes, vowels are Iidiche's.

I think he was talking about a nigger language. Not sandnigger.

I am not a nigger, however an old nigger language would be interesting to see, especially one that had a lot of clicks.
An old language from Siberia would be cool too.

"Nigger language" is an oximoron.
Niggers don't speak, they grunt.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-19 23:11

technically, they click

Old English would be neat to see again. So would Gothic.

Don't change these.
