In my opinion Arabic, Russian and Romanian sound most badass.

>there must have been nothing more scary in the 1940s to people then listening to germans speak.
No-one else spotted this? I think OP was making this thread as a (not so) subtle Nazi joke.
Though I love the way German sounds, very cacophonic compared to most European languages. And very sexy accent for the women.

arabic is one uuuuuuuugly fucking sounding language imo
This is more or less German. I as a native German speaker can understand wide parts of the Yiddish Wikipedia using a hebrew Letters to Latin letter Transripter

Sounds like it would be incredibly hard to learn if it's not your first language.

as a german, i vote for russian. its just like this one simpsons episode where lisa takes the bus to an expo but catches the 22a instead of the 22 and on her way back she comes to little moscow and asks a russian for the way.
my girlfriend was born is moscow and her parents usually call her down for food in russian and i always think she messed up big time

that hasn't been proven. Officially, Japanese is language isolate.

Forget the vocabulary and grammar. The majority of Polynesian languages have the same phonology (although actually it's not the same, but even 2x simpler), they are often syllabic too. If you have very generic knowledge of how does Japanese sound you'll probably never distinguish it.

yeah let's ignore what makes a language what it is, and focus on what an uneducated idiot might think depending on what they hear. Sounds change way easier than grammatical structures.

officially? do you think there is an "official" body which determines crap like this? different theories are perpetrated by different linguists - one could be a majority opinion at best

its language isolate till they can prove the links between Japanese and anything else. so yes, there is an authority that decides these things.

Not only there is no such body, I am astounded by how you made an arbitrary claim which "proved" a completely unrelated thing.
Also, Russian generally sounds really badass. And ever since I've seen some documentary about the Foreign Legion, I've viewed French in another light too.

I'm not a Wapanese but Japanese. Of course, I really like Chinese, Korean, German, Russian, Sanish, French languages and so on. Now I'm thinking to learn Swedish. Do you know how to say 6?

I'm studying Japanese at University and while I think it's kind of a nice challenge I wouldn't say it's the most badass language. Most of the kids these days only want to study it because of Anime, Manga and Visual Novel I guess. I actually like my mother tongue German better, it sounds so crisp, and precise, like a well crafted clock.
I'll have to go with German as many others. Besides the guttural throaty sounds, it's so logical and precise that it makes you want to march in a line and execute someone.

Yeah, well, the first one was a joke. But have you heard a female German voice? I think it's the unaspirated final t's that sound jarring to me (as I am not used to it). It's more obvious with females.
All-Around Badassness: American English with a deep voice
Evil Scary Badassness: German (German sounds realllly cool when you shout it)

You are all wrong. The most badass language is Somali. Have you ever heard a group of male Somalians (?)have an ordinary conversation? It sounds like they are about to rip each others heads off! IMO that is a badass language! BTW, I'm not Somali, I've just heard them quite often on the bus.
I expected /lang/ to be a little better than this. How can someone mention German without someone immediately mentioning dutch? Dutch is at least 10 times as course/authoritative as german ever was.

Japanese is *not* altaic. This is an old theory that almost nobody advances nowadays. Not only is there very little evidence to suggest that Korean is related to other altaic languages, linguistic comparisons dont even support the link between Korean and Japanese. If anything, the further back in time you go the less similar these languages are to each other; something you would not expect among genetic languages.
