Not really. There's no Latin equivalent of Щ, Ы or Х. You can't pronounce these sounds with any combination of Latin letters. And sounds where in English you require more than one letter, such as Ц, Ш, Ж, И, Ч etc.. make things infinitely simpler in terms of reading and writing.

Cyrillic was designed to work perfectly with the Russian language. Latin is sort of a jack of all trades alphabet.

No, they're similar but not the same. The Х sound is produced at the back of your throat, it's a much harder sound. Like if you say "Mexico" in Spanish, that same "KH" sound.

Yes, but it's confined to proper alphabets - not say, syllabaries. Equal expressive power is what I was talking about, therefore nothing being "special" about cyrillic it's the same thing with some different shapes.

I don't like diacritics because they're generally ignored in informal writing. Have you seen chatting Vietnamese or Czech? Most of them write text just like they would write it if there were no diacritical marks at all. Of course it doesn't really bother anyone, but it's still no good when every third word has an incomplete appearance and you shall decipher it (the text is uncomfortable to read).
Different glyphs for different sounds make them also more "stable": for example most of Russian speakers don't even realize that the letter "ц" (ts) is just a compilation of two sounds "t" and "s", and is not an independent sound.

I fail to see the relation in the second too, not only that the same could be done with the latin script, also there are things like the German "z" which is pronounced as "ts" at least in some cases as far as I'm aware.

Aanyways my point was equal expressive power - if you can do it wit cyrillic you can do it with latin etc. that was why for example the azeris' switch to the latin alphabet was retarded.
