Normally it's spelled にゃ, にゃー, にゃゃ, にゃぁ and so on. Katakana is used too.

Miau in Finnish

Miauw in Dutch

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-28 14:58

Traditionally, it's transcribed as "Meu" ([mɛw], I think) in Catalan, but most people say "Miau" ([mjau]) nowadays, just like in Spanish.

I don't know if this is accurate at all:

At least Greek still has the "iau" part similar to every other language.

Japanese is the only one that a) uses n instead of m, and b) doesn't actually sound like the noise cats make.

You don't make sense too. If everyone around you think that cats sound as "nyaa," the cats will really sound like "nyaa" for you. It's purely psychological.

To pronounce "m" (i.e. bilabial nasal) you must use the lips, but no single cat uses its lips but toungue when it speaks, and in fact "n" (i.e. alveolar nasal) is uncomparatively more accurate, needless to say to anybody but a dickhead that uses a primitive JIS Art.

What the fuck is this "mew" shit? I've never heard that word other than as a name of a pokemon.

It is the name of a pokemon and that is where faggoty op is making its mistake.
At least meow sounds like the noise a cat makes, mew sounds fucking stupid.
Yes I'm angry, no, not about this.
