I know how it is:
in Russian - мяу (myau)
in English - mew ([mju:] phonetically)
in Japanese - nya (?) I dunno how it is properly by kana

To pronounce "m" (i.e. bilabial nasal) you must use the lips, but no single cat uses its lips but toungue when it speaks, and in fact "n" (i.e. alveolar nasal) is uncomparatively more accurate, needless to say to anybody but a dickhead that uses a primitive JIS Art.
