'mew' in different languages?

I know how it is:
in Russian - мяу (myau)
in English - mew ([mju:] phonetically)
in Japanese - nya (?) I dunno how it is properly by kana

You don't make sense too. If everyone around you think that cats sound as "nyaa," the cats will really sound like "nyaa" for you. It's purely psychological.
