Books for passing time

Gentlemen,

I am going abroad for two months and a couple weeks and was wondering if that time would suffice to learn how to read/write a language (not speak)? I am going to Brazil and can already read/write/speak portuguese, however I would like to learn how to read/write in a new language while I am there as I will have a lot of free time from 0700-1500 weekdays.

Now I would like to express that my interest was lying in either Cyrillic or Sanskrit, but I am not sure if the time would suffice. I am not fond of learning Kanji/Pinyin to be quite honest. As you can see my interests lie in something less romanic.

Albeit if these alphabets are too complicated or require more time to learn than 2 months, maybe sticking to a roman language would be better, Spanish/Italian/French etc.?

Thank you for your attention and I await your feedback. Thank you.

Since you already know Portuguese, Spanish will be easy to learn.
Russian would be the obvious choice if you want to go for a language using Cyrillic, but the grammar is fairly hard, so I doubt you'll be able to get too far within 2 months. The script won't be the problem though, you can easily master it in one or two days.

Actually I come from Germany, so I already speak it fluently. Thanks for the tip anyway.

I was thinking about Spanish as I know Portuguese and many things are similar in appearance. Concerning Cyrillic, would I be able to read and write within a two month period? Or just write basic sentences due to it's grammatical difficulty?

I was also considering perhaps Arabic, or would that be too difficult as well for that timeframe?

LEARN GERMAN AGAIN

I KNOW THAT HEBREW COULD BE LEARNT IN TWO MONTHS WITH LITTLE TO NO PROBLEM, THE GRAMMAR IS VERY SIMPLE AND THE SCRIPT COULD QUITE EASILY BE LEARNED IN A MATTER OF HOURS. I'M LED TO BELIEVE ARABIC IS QUITE SIMILAR IN THESE RESPECTS.

So you know English, German, and Portuguese.

Learn Spanish and French. Congratulations, you can communicate with 90% of the world.

Hey, if you want to write Cyrillic you'll need to learn the cursive Cyrillic.

I don't know if you are trolling or bored, but thanks anyway...

I have considered Spanish and I suppose it makes the most sense now and considering I also know portuguese it won't be that hard to learn. Thanks.

Thank you for your input everyone, wish me luck.

Most of the people speaking those languages are monolingual.

Cyrillic is easy to memorize, it ressembles the Greek alphabet a lot. Hard is to learn Russian vocabulary and grammar.

Yeah, I can read/type Cyrillic simply because it was sort of a meme on 7chan to write English (or German, or Spanish) in it.
Can't write cursive, though.

GTFO you piece of shit, saying that Cyrillic is easy to learn isn't exactly boasting or anything.

Cyrillic is nothing when you've done kanji/hanzi.

"When you've done kanji, things like washing yourself seem way too trivial to do them."

Don't change these.
