Finnish

Does it have any purpose? It looks like an interesting language...but nobody really speaks it.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-29 0:36

Tolkien based one of his elven languages off of it. Maybe more, I can't remember.

Of course, that doesn't make it any more practical to learn. Unless you're planning to move to Scandinavia, it's probably not worth the effort.

Not even if you're planning to move to Scandinavia.

Finnish is 100% useless. But that shouldn't stop you from learning it if you really like the language.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-29 5:13

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-29 9:30

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-29 9:47

Finnish isn't even in the same language family as Swedish and Norwegian, so quite a lot.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-29 10:17

Norwayish.
LUL.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-02 9:31

Finland is merely East Sweden.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-02 13:54

Wrong, Finland is North-West Russia or atleast it will be soon if Putin wins.

>>11 two umlauted letters in a row?  you're just making that up.  like that made-up language Numa Numa was written in.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-06 3:07

Umlaut is fun to say ^_^

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-06 11:07

Interesting fact: umlaut is a German concept and has to do with changing pronunciation (umlaut means changed sound). In the nordic languages ä is a letter, not an umlaut of a.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-06 15:35

>>17
Finnish is in no way related to nordic languages.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-06 16:28

>>18
Their spelling is. They got ä from Swedish.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-06 20:02

PROTIP: The fact that every language besides English is useless doesn't make them any less interesting.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-17 14:15

Finnish is a good language if you don't mind studying the rest of your life and still not even nearly mastering it.

Anyway, Finnish sounds a bit like Japanese (pretty much in fact) and well is the best way to encrypt text. And yeah, Tolkien taught himself it.

You'd like it if you learned. The only thing is that it's almost as hard as Chinese. Just in a different way.

Joo vitut osaan ees amerikan kieltä. Selitä siinä sitten suomesta. Tapan itteni.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-18 5:52

not useless.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-18 9:17

And I'm sure somewhere in the world there's someone that makes a living by eating nose boogers. Just because it's useful to one person, it doesn't make a difference in the big scheme of things.

Only languages that have any international use are English, Español, Français, Japanese, and Chinese.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-19 16:46

>>38 Chinese
No.
It's a myth spreaded by misguided people just because China is a rising economy. Actually, Chinese businessmen prefer to conduct international business using English.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-19 17:55

Lies. I have yet to meet a single Chinese person who speaks English you can make sense of.
