Second Language

For someone who only knows English, what does everyone think is the best supplimentary language to learn. I'm thinking German, since it's used through a lot of Europe (or at least gives one a better chance of communicating with someone from some parts of Europe) and is similar to English.

Japan has a much larger population, they suck at English and they have a lot of worthwhile culture (in the eyes of a wap). In contrast, Germany has bratwurst, nazis, philosophers, beer and manly women.

A lot of people learn a language because of some interest in a particular country, not for its overall usefulness. If you're just going for usefulness Spanish, Arabic or Chinese would be my top bets
