New Imageboard Software in Development

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-16 19:05

Hey guys,

A friend of mine and I are developing a new php/mysql based imageboard software and we'd really like your brutally honest opinions about it.

Here is the home of the system (under construction!):

http://www.rakuhana.org

our demo site for rakuhana:

http://www.random-anime.com/

We're designing it so almost any person can just download, install, run and manage it very easily. It's not really meant to be a replacement for wakaba, etc.. It's just a very easy script with a couple of useful features (installable themes, remote spam list updating, etc..). Most people who want to run imageboards aren't really that proficient at php, perl, or heck even css at that. So we thought it would be nice if somebody made a system anyone can use (kinda like phpbb, wordpress, etc..).

Here's a preview of the admin panel we have so far:

If you have questions/comments/concerns, just ask smile.gif

-Thanks

( ´_ゝ`)

This site fails. It's nothing more than a "glorified" Kusaba knockoff, and this board is not here for you to spam your retarded site. Get out.

Its gradually getting better. Its decent. 7/10.

No it's not. It's horrid.

I like it. But it is far different from the typical imageboards I am used to. So it feels weird using it. I would give it a 10/10 because it is a good idea and does have nice usability to many people and I'm sure it will work out. But it just isn't my kind of place.

Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you people?

Anon is the reason imageboards, and textboards always fail! If you want it to be truly useful you would enable a registration option!

shitty, shitty.
It's the color scheme, the whole post box is ugly.
change the colors, align the reply with the title bar, and get rid of that ugly little heart next to it.

next, do away with the pointer-highlight-color-change-thing. it's a distraction. have an expand button for the quotes.

also, you need a board, MAYBE two, that gives people a reason to post. Something awesome to attract traffic, something you need for a good imageboard.

I kinda like it.  Color scheme reminds me of island nation for some reason.  The "reply" text on the right is not lined up to the post for me.  Possible features to add are spell checking and the ability to upload pictures from a website without downloading it to you desktop first.  Of course the pictures would be on your servers afterwards as to not take too much bandwidth from the original site.  Hope you have a flood mechanism and an easy way to ban people.  Also, the less java script you use the better.

I prefer spoiler text rather than having the whole post be listed as a spoiler.  Because you can write funny stuff.

It sucks.

I get the feeling this is going to be a server host much like Imageboard4free, Anonib, and ProBoards. But it does give me a very professional feeling while looking at it. Reminds me of ProBoards, but for imageboards. It's ashame that this is going to be a site like Imageboard4free or ProBoards.

>We're designing it so almost any person can just download, install, run and manage it very easily.

well that's problem #1. i certainly hope security is a major priority or you're just going to be helping some kids who don't know any better get their shit wrecked. is your sql parametrized? have you made sure to check the MIMEtype on uploaded files?

more importantly there is no such thing as running an imageboard easily. running a decent imageboard requires some time-investment on the part of the owner. most boards get filled up with crawler spam and die because they're unmoderated and nobody deletes it. you can't just set up a site and put it on the overchan.

Greetings fellow imageboard software developer, mine's at http://tinyib.googlecode.com/ and some demos are in the menu on the right.  I use MySQL as well however it also supports flat file.
