so, 4chan needs more money, and ads do seem like the most reasonable thing. i was wondering, though. i have a tweaked HOSTS file that blocks most advertisements. will this hurt 4chan, since there are fewer people seeingthe ads, or do you get paid based on the number of people visiting the site?

Yes. The more people who see the ads, the better. Blocking the ads hurts the site.
Blocking the ads absolutly hurts the site. If any part of you cares at all about 4chan staying around, you should unblock those ads.

Hey moot, on the off-chance you're reading this: have you considered ditching the "non-business" adspot, and putting in some Project Wonderful ads instead? There doesn't seem to be anything forbidding adult sites from using the service, and overall the system looks pretty dang sweet.
I don't get the graph. We're approaching either $1400, or 1000 users, but back in 2004 we had 100,000 users at $0 each?

What you should do is disable them from being openly displayed on the screen, this still loads them and counts as viewing them, having the image dimensions helps for this.
The graph has an axle upside-down on the right, there were 1000 users back when it was $0 revenue support and it was out of pocket. that is all
Fails for using Excel though

i already see the ads that are on 4chan right now. the HOSTS file blocks those ad companies that are on every fucking website in the world (adbrite, etc.)
