Crazy ISP /b/ blockers.

Name: mysterious_w !LocM9vbZZ6 2006-06-10 11:46

If you're one of the unlucky people for whom /b/ is blocked, you'll probably know BT and NTL are the blockers.

My ISP is NTL, and while looking at the source file for the 404 page you get when trying to get to /b/, I found a broken image link with this url:

http://data-ops4-glfd.server.ntli.net/test.img

Going to the parent directory, http://data-ops4-glfd.server.ntli.net, I found some interesting stuff. There's a few .htm files such as this one http://data-ops4-glfd.server.ntli.net/ink.htm , which just contain the phrase  "You should never see this page in real life". Hmmmm....

Looking in the /ehealth directory there's even more random crap, what the heck does this image have to do with.. well.. anything?!?

http://data-ops4-glfd.server.ntli.net/ehealth/1.jpg

This one here looks like it might be one of those 3D-glasses images

http://data-ops4-glfd.server.ntli.net/ehealth/nasa2.jpg

Poke around more people, this is really odd.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-10 13:11

Time for me to switch ISP then.

First they tell me I can no longer use the service as much as I want, and now they have the nerve to dictate what sites I can and can not go to? this is Scotland, not fucking China.

This seems to be a webcache-related thing. Therefore, the solution would be to bypass the NTL proxy. The only way to do this is to specify your own proxy. The solution, therefore, is to set up a local proxy on your PC (Privoxy should be able to do it), and then use that instead of the transparent NTL proxy.

Name: DXM 2006-06-10 15:37

Privoxy grabs stuff from the normal /b/, but then also retrieves that page and displays it. I don't get what's going on -- the cache should be entirely bypassed now.

Since other directories work fine on img.4chan.org, the easiest solution, and the most sensible one, would be for the server administrator to provide an alias directory through editing of the Apache config, or the creation or editing of .htaccess files.

i.e. http://img.4chan.org/z/ or whatever.

Name: DXM !T1/.GliLcU 2006-06-10 17:19

I have mitigated this block. Simply put a question mark after imgboard.html -- all other pages work thereafter. If you want to post, then you can do so, but it will redirect you to imgboard.html, and you will need to put the ? after it again to get to page 0.

http://img.4chan.org/b/imgboard.html?

Have fun.

But are we doing the right thing bypassing this? Don't want the party van at MY door myself.

I dunno, it's a scary thing when you think about it. Any other sites you know of that are blocked like this? Likely only fucked up sites no human being should go on that are being blocked. /b/ is classed as this now? What gives?

Name: DXM !T1/.GliLcU 2006-06-12 16:14

/b/ does not encourage pedophilia or anything, and it is always cleaned up if anything if posted. This is not /b/'s fault, therefore the imageboard should not be blocked.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-12 16:50

Dunno, but seriously you should move away from there if you live in so bad police state that bypassing censorship is illegal.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 13:43

I went to the IWF's site: http://www.iwf.org.uk a nd I noticed this description of their services:

The UK hotline for reporting illegal content specifically:
Child abuse images hosted worldwide and criminally obscene and incitement to racial hatred content hosted in the UK.

We may not have child abuse, but I'll be damned if there isn't racial hatred. Bix nood etc anyone? Could well be the reason. Crazy I know, but, that's what they're after.

I just checked out IWF - it seems you can't even tell which sites are on the ban list unless you subscribe thousands per year and become a 'member' - talk about big brother.  On top of this, IWF has managed to get itself a 'registered charity' status lol.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-14 14:26

Face it, /b/'s dead to anyone in the UK. Go find a new place to post at - that's what I'm doing. Pedos have officially killed /b/. Enjoy your pedo porn site.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-14 15:40

Yeah you're probably right.  I doubt the BT/NTL ban will be removed because the mods on /b/ are just too damned slow at clearing off the CP for it to be re-assessed.  When you run a board that gets around 250,000 posts a week you need to be on that shit in seconds, not half an hour or more.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-14 20:35

I think /b/ block has more do with lolicon than real CP. Now it maybe legal in UK, but considering that they have banned many hentai movies and similar from import/sale it wouldn't surprise me.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 10:04

>>33
Not true - the IWF can ONLY institiute a recommendation for a ban on international sites for CP activities.  Having said that, what is 'lolicon' anyway except a milder form of CP?  It's still the sexual exploitation of children via images/photos...

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 14:40

This really sucks

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 16:10

Its easy enough to get around, use the actual ip of the b board, or for the NTLers just add a ? to the url.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:01

What is the boards ip?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:16

And yeah, more to the point, what's the chances of getting busted for bypassing?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:39

>>38

It's not illegal to bypass - neither BT or NTL have given out any official information that they have blocked the addresses, nor has /b/ been classified by the law in the UK as being an illegal one, it's just that some spanner decided to report /b/ to the IWF (of which BT and NTL are members), and some *cough* 'trained' analyst at IWF decided that it was a CP site and thus requested that BT/NTL as members should block access to it.  Presumably he visited it during one of the recent CP floods when the mods were fuck-knows-where / just not doing their jobs.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:57

I'm an NTL user and it works fine for me if I just put img.4chan.org/b in the address bar

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 18:01

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 18:01

Why has 4chan now blocked all BT Internet IP ranges? All of img.4chan.org is unavailable with this message:

You have been banned from 4chan.
There was no entry in our database for your ban. Therefore, the reason for this ban cannot be automatically determined. It is likely that a ban has been placed on your ISP or country due to bandwidth or leeching concerns. Please contact a moderator on #4chan @ irc.rizon.net with your IP address (217.42.189.xxx) for more details.

WHY??
IT'S REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING!!

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 18:13

Banned from the 4chan end for all boards on the img server. /b/ gets a 404 from the navigation bar, but gets a ban message from the direct IP http://66.207.165.178/b/imgboard.html.

I'm not a frequent /b/ user, but I'm fuming at this. I can partially understand why BT and NTL have done this, though I'm still angry at them for doing so. However, I am absolutely enraged at those sick bastards that think a) CP is ok and  b) thought that it would be fun to ban most of the UK and throw the entire population of /b/ into legal uncertainty by posting this shit.

I hope the sicko is tracked down and gets the dropped soap treatment from those lovely lads at HMP Strangeways.

I sent an email to admin@iwf.org.uk in protest of their block. Although I doubt this will do anything to stop the BT problem as they seem to have taken it upon themselves to block all of img, I hope this helps:

--

Hello,

I wish to make a formal complaint about the inclusion of the URL http://img.4chan.org/b/imgboard.html in your database. I believe it has been blocked due to someone making a complaint about child abuse images having been uploaded to there.

The purpose of 4chan's image-based bulletin boards is not as a paedophile exchange; 4chan is a fairly popular website centred around a common interest in anime (Japanese-style drawing and animation), though bulletin boards for other topics such as origami, television and nature have been added.

In addition to this, illegal content is explicitly disallowed from being posted. To quote the rules page (from http://www.4chan.org/rules.php):

"1. Do not upload, post, discuss, or link to, anything that violates local or United States law. This will be severely punished and strictly enforced."

And for the section of the website that you have in your database:

"Illegal content will not be tolerated. Borderline content will result in banishment—don't attempt to push the envelope."

As with any website that allows anonymous, public posting of images to it there is a danger of people using it to share illegal content but the owner and moderators of the website are aware of this and take it very seriously. Having discussed it with them and from seeing it happen, I can confirm that the moderators act swiftly to remove such images from the website.

With all this in mind, I believe that it is inappropriate to include any part of 4chan in your child abuse images database.

Please let me know the outcome of my complaint.

Regards
Steve

But, uh, to the best of my knowledge bestiality isn't against the rules in /b/ anyway. What gives?

I guess one of the mods were in a pissy mood to refuse the appeal?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 15:47

Absolutely great - why is it always that some twat sharing a proxy just can't control themselves and gets us all booted.
Couple of questions though...
1.  The mods must know that there are literally thousands of us using the BT webcache so how come they won't lift the ban?  (I'm sure that the twat will only post more of whatever it was when the ban is lifted anyway - so at this rate literally thousands of us won't be able to use the cache again)
2.  If the mods don't lift the ban, or keep reinstating it, has anyone found a new cache we can use yet?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 15:59

Ignore the previous post.  Bless 'em, the mods have lifted the ban :)  Yay /b/!!!

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 16:17

The problem with lifting/not putting bans on this proxy is, I assume, how the fuck do you ban someone who deserves it? If someone posts cp with it, I'm gonna have to assume we're all just fucked.

No-one would dare post CP through a British ISP. Paedophilia tends to be the sort of crime you get a lynch mob out for. Bestiality on the other hand gets a humourous little mention now and again in the papers when some guy has been caught buggering a sheep or whatever.

I got an <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a> engagement ring for Christmas. My <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a> boyfriend and I had been dating for almost a year and both felt the time was <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a>right to join our lives together in holy matrimony. htmlThe month of January was spent planning our <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> perfect Alabama June wedding. My mother, two sisters and I went to Huntsville, the closest <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a> town with a selection of bridal shops, to buy the gown that would play the leading role on my special occasion. We <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> had a wonderful time just being together and sharing silly jokes, but the <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> day soon turned serious by afternoon: still no sign of the dress of my dreams. Both sisters were ready to give <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> up and try another day in another town, but I coerced them into one more boutique.I had a good feeling as we entered the quaint little <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a> shop filled with the scent of fresh flowers. The elderly clerk showed us several <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> beautiful gowns in my size <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> and price range, but none were right. As I opened the door to leave, the desperate shop owner announced she had one more dress in the back that was expensive and <a href="http://www.maternityweddingdressesshop.com" title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">maternity wedding dresses</a> not even my size, but perhaps I <a href="http://www.wholesale-promgowns.com " title="wholesale Wedding Dresses">wholesale prom gowns</a> might want to look at it anyway. When she brought it out, I squealed in delight.
