So, is it actually possible to become a Lich?
or was that just a rumor?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:45

So, basically, this game is a steaming pile of shit?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:53

is there a rape mod in the works yet?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 11:34

this happened to me earlier:
>be exploring
>suddenly dragon battle ensues
>struggling with a frost dragon getting my shit raped
>come across a group of mercs
>"oh sweet! these guys will help come to my aid"
>"we're here to teach you a lesson"
>mercs and dragons join forces

:\

also this:
>doing a quest for the jarl of some miserable stinktown
>wind up going to investigate someones place on suspicion they are a vampire
>as soon as I break in they're waiting for me and for some reason they're strong as hell (or im weak as shit)
>exit house since its too cramped to fight
>vampire follows me outside, is still trying to suck my life away
>in front of a couple of guards who just stand there not giving a fuck
>I run and hide until it gives up the chase
>I see it walking back to its house so I run up behind and clobber it over the head
>"you have broken the law"
>ignore
>guards help vampire slay me

sigh. still very much entertained thus far though. lets have more tales of plight and plunder to help tide us over.

>be walking around skyrim
>suddenly a fucking dragon
>kill the fucker because he ain't got shit against my fire resistance equipment
>low on health, but the fucker is dead
>suddenly a bear
>bear fucking kills me before i have enough time to react

This game man, this game.

Just finished the main quest line with my first character, Wood Elf thief. I must say, maxing out stealth makes the game very easy.

Started a breton wizard/conjurer. What other magic skills should I train while raisin the dead?

try illusion or alteration, those can be useful

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 12:49

I know this is kind of vague, but... how do I be a good necromancer? The raise dead spells only last for 60 seconds (haven't got any perks yet). For now, I kill a group of baddies, find a new group, then run back and raise one of the previous group to help me.

Alteration is pretty much a must for any pure mage.
Some points in Restoration is also nice.

I've basically 'finished' a run as a combat mage in master (killing ancient dragons, did most faction quests and the main story, etc).
I specialized in Alteration, Illusion, and the bound weapons line of conjuration.  I had a few points in Restoration, One-handed, and Archery. In the end I had to grab the double enchant item perk in order to be able to kill ancient dragons in reasonable time (I did +conjuration on everything to improve my bound weapons).
If you get the pet line instead and destro magic your character should be much, much easier to play than mine, and I only really had problems with dragons. The fact that if you aren't in heavy armor means that they can one shot you whenever they please with the bite event.

Conjuring Daedra > Raising Zombies

Atronachs and Daedra do not require corpses to summon, unlike zombies. You can also choose where the Daedra gets summoned, which is helpful once you get the perks that increase the summoning range. Later on everything tends to kill you quickly and being able to throw an Atronach in front of you to lure attention is essential.

I tried playing a Necromancer but I quickly dropped it once I found out how worthless zombies were. Zombies are amusing and interesting but their novelty wears off once you get to the point where you absolutely need control over your summons to survive.

I went as a blacksmith/enchanter/archer/two-hand Nord warrior. As soon as I found a glass greatsword, I stocked it in my house until I got smithing to 70, made it an epic blade, and enchanted it with a soul trap enchantment. Good ol' Void's Edge.

I should have thought that through more, because now I can't hold all these lesser and common souls.

Another thing is that I started on expert, switched to adept because some enemies were too hard so I kept getting stuck, and later switched back to expert because adept was too easy. The fuck man.

Just put the soul trap weapon on your companion and dump all the gems there. They will fill them all up for you.

Lydia died for me, so I have no companion at the moment. Maybe I could get that battlemage cultist of Namira to join me... She's not exactly pleasing to look at so I'll put a steel plate helmet on her and not worry anymore.

This Skyrim nag is nuts. I see nothing special about this game, and yet everywhere I turn, I see people obsessed with Skyrim. The only unique thing that I've seen, it that you can cry for mommy really loud. How is that a skill? Also, glass swords?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 14:06

>>23

Shouts aren't really a skill, they're an ability. You can throw bears across the room by shouting, you can freeze people in place by shouting, you can become invincible by shouting, and so forth.

And yes, Glass swords. Interesting thing in the elder scrolls. Ebony and Glass in there are actually volcanic materials with metallic properties. Glass is just very green and very shiny. Ebony is pitch black yet flexible unlike Obsidian which is brittle.

"Skill", "ability", same thing. It seems that shouting is the most holy of skills in Skyrim. I'd even be more inclined to buy the game if PISSING was the most holy skill, because PISSING a bear across the room is something that would have at least SOME sort of substance to it.

I always forget that this BBS exists.  Anyway, while /v/ was/is down I went to the "official" forums over at bethsoft.com for my Skyrim discussion.

HOLY SHIT, they're actually worse than /v/.  I figured an official forum would be nothing but praise for the game and moderator dick-sucking, but all I saw were a bunch of ignorant kids bitching about everything imaginable.

I never thought I'd find a more unreasonable bunch of faggots than who I put up with on /v/, but boy was I wrong.

Does anyone know when Destruction actually gets bad? I'm level 28 now and still one/two-shotting everything that isnt a boss/tough enemy.

And how can I be a spell-flinging super wizard and still make it viable past level 40?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 16:02

tried doing a mage, shit sucked until I was level 15ish. Now I'm wrecking everything with Fireball/Chain Lightning.
Why again do people say destruction sucks?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 16:11

Why are all of the crafting skills so retardedly overpowered?  I know this is a single-player game, but for fuck's sake I'm not even trying and I'm pretty much breaking the game here.

I wanted my character to have a strong creative side and to possess some skills that would help him in the "real world."  So of course I went for stuff like smithing, alchemy, cooking, enchanting, etc.  I leveled these up naturally (without power-leveling) and took perks in them, and now everything I create basically turns me into a fucking god.

I have poisons that deal thousands of points of damage and potions that fully restore my health every second and last for like ten minutes.  If I maximize the armor I craft then I end up with an armor rating of like 800.  And don't even get me started on the enchanting system.  Even a complete idiot would be able to find a way to make himself unfathomably powerful through enchanting.

It's not like these are exploits or anything.  They're just the skills that are built into the game.  Why is Bethesda so consistently terrible at making balanced skill systems?  It's like the don't test this shit at all.

Yeah, you'd think /v/ is a shithole but it's actually the least shitty shithole on the internet.

Try putting the game on master difficulty.  Destruction spells will empty your magicka pool long before your enemies die, unless you couple it with alchemy or enchanting.

>doing the murder mystery in Windhelm
>follow the blood trail, find the journals and amulet
>take it to the appraiser
>he seems awful eager to take it off my hands
>decide to break into his house to see if there's any evidence
>find a journal that explicitly proves that he is the killer
>go back to the steward, only option is to turn in an innocent man
>can't confront said innocent man with the amulet that's supposedly his but isn't
>can't confront the killer, only option is to sell him the amulet
>can't kill him because he's essential
>can't figure out how I'm "supposed" to solve this

Well fuck.  How do you do this quest then?  Are you required to lock up an innocent man and realize your mistake later or something?

If I wanted to play a difficult game solely for the difficulty, I'd pop in Skyrim

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 16:29

Alright, now I'm gonna be making a Sword n Board/Heavy Armor/Conjuration/Enchanting character.

1. Would this even work, or would my perks be too spread out?

2. What race would have the best perks for this?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 16:33

>>34
No, the natural level cap is 81.  Although you likely won't reach that before you finish the majority of the game's quests, you should have more than enough perk points to specialize in all of those skills.

As for a race, the Bretons' magic resist is good for any build, and they also get a strong initial boost to conjuration.  You could also use an Orc, whose berserker ability is great for melee types.  Orcs also get early boosts in block, one-handed, heavy armor, and enchanting.  But really it doesn't matter - just pick whatever race you like and run with it.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 16:35

Alright guys, its game time. Just got this earlier today, and am about to pop it in.

Male or female?

That quest is buggy as hell
Look up a guide for it, and I hope you have a save you can load

The thing is, if you level the non combat skills; when you level up, the game levels with you, but your combat skills aren't up to par so you get raped. Being able to craft uber weapons and armour, is just the game's way of compensating. Its just approaching the combat problem from a different perspective; in a way it is kind of balanced although maybe a little over powered.

So what does everyone name their weapons?  I have a big-ass Daedric warhammer with a shock enchantment named "Thunderfuck."

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 17:09

I have a blessed warhammer called USS Skeletonfucker. I suppose the blessing is shit, but I already had the name and I wanted it to be appropriate.

Yielding is so fucked up in this game.

I started a new game, got through the tutorial, and went to go help the Companions kill that stupid giant.

Farkas (or whoever uses the steel 2h) hit me, and went aggressive. I tried putting my weapon away, nothing. I tried bringing it out and sheathing it multiple times, nothing.

I was chased for almost 10 minutes across the landscape by this fucker. I passed 3 guards that didnt do shit, and managed to find Miaq on the way.

I finally just let the asshole kill me.

Why cant they just have left yielding like it was?

Don't change these.
