JRPG KAWAII THREAD

Okay you fucks

I've been shitting my dick for 11 hours straight playing Final Fantasy 1. I am head over asscheeks this game isn't worth the time I'm spending in it

What JRPGs do you recommend that actually have a well developed story and characters? Not some plot written on the back of the box this NES cartridge came in and a bunch of guys telling me to go to the cave down yonder and back and forth fighting with random enemy encounters every two steps

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 16:38

Yeah, I'd be shitting my dick playing that game, too. I had a better time with the GBA version.

The best way to experience Final Fantasy 1 is with the Mod of Balance for the GBA version:

Not much of your "well developed story and characters" sure but playing an actually well balanced and difficult JRPG can be pretty good times.

i dont know, some how im enjoying this, the text board feels more streamline than normal 4chan

Text boards are nice. If they were a bit more active they'd be a great alternative.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 18:41

Okay now I have 2/4 crystals.

So this game is fine for an exploration simple battling type game. Linear as fuck.

I think I'm going to skip the second game when I'm done with this and just play the third one. If it was good enough for a DS remake then it must be a good game

The first two games never got any remakes, just ports all over the fucking place.

Is the second one worth playing at all? I just wanted to try the entire FF series up til 9 but fuck..

If you want to play the early games, do not play 2 or 3.  Both have aged poorly.  2 is interesting only as a direction that FF didn't take and 3 is decent but there's literally no reason to play it because all it is is the beta for 5.

4 is also really, really cheesy at this point and has none of the customization that is the hallmark of the Final Fantasy series.  So my suggestions would be:
1 if you like grinding dungeon crawls
5 for the job system and silly story (GBA version)
6 for improved story, characters, graphics
7 because it's got a cool aesthetic
and 9 because it's like some of the best parts (not all of them though) of the early FF games mushed together.

I also recommend 10 if you like using summons - the aeons are different from summons in that they actually serve as more than just a single attack. They temporarily replace the entire party (until the end of battle or dropped to 0 HP, though they can be prematurely dismissed.) and have other benefits.

And if you like the job system in FFV, try FFTA or FFTA2 (no plot connection to worry about) as it's got a similar but elaborated job system.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 18:59

Can you recomend any time killing rpg/jrpg, Im bored

Though if you don't like the law systems, go with the original FFT instead.

I already checked out Tactics Advance years ago but I never finished it. It was so fucking awesome, even the delightful god damn characters.

>>16
Pokemon is a time killing RPG. Seriously I bring my Game Boy into the bathroom and play dat shit. I play this before I go to bed too. I'm almost done with Red and then I'll go play Gold.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:07

Not FireRed and HeartGold?

I seriouslee blee blaa bloo bloo

>>11

I think I'll check out 3 and 4 then. I don't care about the story being cheesy or that 3 is a beta of a more improved game to come. If the plot's actually deeper and it's not as fucked as FF1 then it's good enough. Is it or are they still as fucked random enemy encounter every two steps with no real plot or character development?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:17

bump

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:17

check em

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:21

If you want to play a 'classic' FF that isn't shit, go for 5 or 6. They're probably the best overall 2D games in the series. Haters, hate, etc.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 19:49

>>20
3 is still fucked.  The final dungeon takes two hours to get through and has no save points.

4 is crappy but it's at least a fair sort of crappy.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 20:00

which of the final fantasy is the best? im looking for rpg games that are fun, not ff13 linear games so... probly like 7 or 8 and before i think

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-14 20:19

>>24
No... 4 is just all kinds of crappy mixed in a blender with nostalgia.
>>25
Didn't 13 get 120/100 from some reviewer? There's no way a game that is 20% better than perfect can possibly be bad

Welp, seems 4chan's imageboards are working again. Don't forget the text boards the next time this shit happens. They more than likely will work.

I'm staying on the text boards for a while

At least my thread's not going to die

Chrono Trigger needs a direct sequel

Chrono Cross is a good game in it's own but as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it doesn't live up to it.

There was that Crimson Echoes or whatever they ended up calling it. From what I can remember it was actually pretty decent.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 15:28

It was cancelled so the only circulated patch is the alpha version.

Fucking Square. A 3D remake of Chrono Trigger was in development too and they too got a cease and desist.

BREATH OF FIRE V: DRAGON QUARTER PLAYING MASTER RACE HERE

ENJOY YOUR SILLY LITTLE "HARDCORE" DEMON'S SOULS GAMES WHILE I PLAY GAMES THAT ARE LEGITIMATELY CHALLENGING.

Seriously, Dragon Quarter is a fucking masterpiece. Sure, it was a deviation from the usual Breath of Fire games but man, instead of just being a good colourful JRPG it instead became the Deus Ex of JRPGs (in my opinion anyway, faggots will still dislike it either for being Japanese or for being too hard and restrictive.)

Your disgusting kind is what gives JRPG fans a bad name.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-16 19:34

I know, but the story is complete in the alpha build from what I remember.

>>34

Isn't Dragon Quarter the game with the completely arbitrary time limit? Why would you ever do that in an RPG, of all genres?
