news about nightwolve

So, yesterday was an epic day for the Ys community. After wyrdwad started translating Ys Origin with the help of a really coal italian hacker named doppiapunta, everyone stopped to care about Nightwolve, since if we had someone who actually cares about us and is true to the spirit of *fan-translating* something, we don’t need a crazy bastard’s who’s fucking egocentrical patch. But guess who showed up. Nightwolve. Sending mails to wyrdwad telling him to stop his patch because he has a MASTER PLAN under his sleeves to fuck all the Ys fans. wyrdwad got really surprised with the contents of NW’s email and decided to share it, and thank god he did, because it’s both really sad and hilarious at the same time:

“After the Felghana leak, it was the last straw and I decided I only wanna deal with REAL Falcom fans in the future, for the most part. REAL Falcom fans… Those that buy Falcom products and donate (fun fact: per capita, most donations come from Falcom game owners, not the warez). I wanna work for THEM and ONLY THEM! See, the warez folks ARE the problem and I wanted to have a way to filter ALL of them out… Sure, there are some decent folks that stole the game also, but they don’t deserve to have it in English to boot (well, not unless it’s an abandonware ‘home of the underdogs’ situation). Understand? So, I thought about how this could be accomplished. I came up with the idea/vision of releasing an Ys Origin patch under a so called “Falcom Friend or Foe” campaign. How would it work, roughly?

1) You are first given a program which asks you to insert an original Ys Origin DVD-ROM. It would also ask you to report the serial # that’s included inside your Falcom packaging. The results of this disc authenticity test are then sent to the server.

2) If a pirated disc is detected, YOU ARE REJECTED from continuing any further! Your minimum required donation will be refunded to you and you’ll be sent packing for having wasted my time and lied about owning a real disc!! Of course, if an original disc is detected, you will proceed further. (Most of the warez pirates would be eliminated from this point anyway, because they don’t wanna pay anything, not to me, and certainly not $100 to Falcom… So that’s already about >10,000 video game thieves you eliminate right off the bat. It’s not 100% though, because ~100-150 with pirated copies will donate, hence the disc check must be relied upon to send them packing.)

3) OK, now that you’ve proven you’re a real Falcom fan with a purchased disc, you
will be given a login account and a link. Clicking the link, logging in, will result in an ActiveX type of interface that would begin the patch installation (This limits one to IE only, though). My idea is not to have an executable; it would be a web page that would patch your game as this cannot be spread and it’s less likely to fall into the hands of hackers so as to crack it.

Some details: The install patch files would be encrypted to foil crack attempts and
by dealing with mostly REAL Falcom fans that bought the game, any patch file would less likely be passed along to the wrong people. The patch has to be locked down to the computer with the generation of a unique ID. If someone has to repatch because they got a new computer, their original login account would still be good. I would have to make something like you get to patch every 3 months or something like that. If there is suspicious activity (too much patching attempts), I’ll be able to monitor all, etc.”

Seriously. what.the.fuck. Fan-made DRM? WHO THE HELL would pay this “minimum required donation” to NIGHTWOLVE in order to get a fucking FAN-TRANSLATION PATCH? Aren’t we missing the point of *donations* here, Nightwolve? Eh?

What’s worse is that the same guy who typed all that retarded bullshit against piracy used to run a fucking hub on DC++ where he’d share all type of shit. Priceless.

tl;dr Nightwolve, die in a fucking fire.

You even SEEN NightWolve's page lately? Not only is he STILL ranting about this(yes, clearly he's UPSET that SOMEONE ELSE translated Ys VI without drama), but half of his page is rants against Barack Obama and black people in general.

So, not only is he a loopy bastard who thinks he should be paid for DERIVATIVE WORK(guess he doesn't want to give a CENT of that donation money to his precious Falcom), he's also a blithering white supremacist fuckhead.

Guy needs to hang himself. Preferably in his batheroom with his pants down.

Seriously, how does NightWolve expect people in the USA to obtain legit copies? Most people who'd order it would probably be buying the games second-hand anyway, meaning Falcom still wouldn't see any money.

You know what's funny? I once used Scott Pakin's infamous auto-complaint letter generator (google it if you don't know) on this guy and he went BALLISTIC. He thought I was the guy who stole his patch and distributed it and proceeded to flood my hotmail inbox with porn, then bragged about how he just "fucked me over" You know...giving me more porn than my alternate email already had in it.

He is a very sick, very immature and very lonely man. To be honest, I feel sorry for him. He has no sense of humor and has absolutely no common sense whatsoever. He's so naive that he's almost comparable to Chris-chan in how gullible and narcissistic he is.

He must be mad that Deuce got that cushy translation job with Xseed games and he's still masturbating to Ys-themed rule 34.

It should be common sense. 99%+ of English-speakers playing Japanese-language PC games are going to be pirates, therefore the vast majority of people wanting the English patch are also going to be pirates. It's sad, but that's the nature of PC gaming. His attitude did not earn him any donations.

What's the fucking deal with PC games if all they do is make you look stupid playing them?

Here's a pointer: just use a PC to surf the web, talk smack on 4chan, avoid those shitty flash games, get bored, then log off and play Halo on 360 like a REAL MAN!!!!

Re: Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys English Dub Patch Released!

Eh, to clarify, Shimarisu, given her little Ys IV CD-R eBay sales stunts, were she included, she could possibly be accepting of the idea; maybe, there is some room for convincing in her case... Now DeuceBag, highly doubtful, although, back in '07, he did demand a 40%/60% split of earnings if we went forward with a payware patch regarding Ys Origin - I never got around to really begin development on the plans that I had though. I thought the 40% split was outrageous given the time/labor I've had to put in compared to him (if it took him 22 days to convert Japanese to English in Felghana's case, & it took me a year to develop script management software, to hack the engine to extract the text, all the related research, the marketing, the website, etc., he was gonna have to do a LOT more work for me to think a 40% split in his favor was fair...) and it led to him making an ultimatum of either I accept the deal or we quit working together, etc. If the patch was free, fine, then his labor was free, but if not, a 40%/60% split. I got him down to 25% the next day, but I guess he carried a grudge ever since, hence how he put me down for 0% when the XSEED situation came along and 100% for himself (but there's more complexities to it than that, stayed tuned in the future on my site about this one day)...

But yeah, just to clarify, they handled the translation department (94% by Shimarisu in Ys IV's case), and I would say neither of them are fanatics on the issue (as far as, OH MY GAWDD, it's supposed to 100% FREE --what the leaker of my Felghana patch infamously said-- or the universe will collapse in on itself, it's by fans for fans, I stand against the evil profit-motive, etc., that whole deal), but I'm not gonna say that if I sought their support, I'd get it... I'd really have to sweeten the deal. But like I said, I don't give a damn about their approval! I'm not on speaking terms with either of them and never will be again. Although, in DeuceBag's case, I have dreamt of having a lawyer do my talking for me to him one day. This would require me going to his state of South Carolina and filing a small-claims lawsuit for what one lawyer I consulted with told me would be classified as "unjust enrichment."

Anyway, enough of that, this thread was supposed to be more of a celebration and positive in nature. There'll be time to talk about this down the road, we're not even past the first week of release and we're getting a wee bit too negative about things. I respect BL/Mike's position, and there are people that can have a genuine, passionate view that if they work on something they intended to be free, it should remain that way. The fanatics, like at say "romhacking hacks.net", try to push such beliefs onto others via threats of extortion, slander, character assassination, ginning up hysteria/paranoia/fear via the spread of misinformation and whatnot, etc. You've got that extreme which, as you can tell, I've dealt with and have strong feelings about.

Sometimes, you do just wanna say, "Eh, what's the big #?!?#?#!# deal ??" and seeing these damn lightscribed CD-Rs are only pissing me off even more that I didn't get a drive myself and it makes me think how much I'd love to make a pressed CD, but how that there are so many that would stand in the way and tell me, "NEVER, NEVER!!! NEVVVEERRR!!! NOT IF *I* HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE WORK YOU WILL!!!" Anyway, diplomacy's not my strong suit, but you know where I stand. ;)
