1) he's physically attractive and seems confident. he makes the same girls who always rejected you back in high school squeal
2) he is popular. you have been conditioned to hate all things popular the way the cockroaches that infest your kitchen hate the light. you scurry resentfully from anything popular leaving a stinking, putrid trail behind you, and wait until the light is shut off to scavenge amongst the cultural refuse pile for more "undiscovered" detritus.
3) he radiates confidence. the only kind of protagonist you could possibly relate to would cater to the same nervous, tongue chewing self-loathing you experience every minute of every day. if a hero wants to become popular with your type, the first thing he must do is write jokes about how much he hates himself.
4) Master Chief doesn't even give a shit how you feel about him. he's media savvy and aware of marketing trends. you don't represent an important demographic. you represent a brokedick, face in the mud demographic.
i don't even think Master Chief is that heroic. he's just good as background noise. watching one of his games is slightly better than doing nothign at all for 20 or 30 minutes, worth a few more laughs than just watching people pass by and laughing about the way they're dressed. people who sincerely, honestly hate Master Chief though demonstrate that they are hopelessly broken, pointlessly bitter losers.
