Game is responsible for causing stagnation. After it was released, everyone was popping a boner over shitty ps1 3D and cg movies. Except they were not Squaresoft and could not replicate ff7 so they were mostly doomed to failure. So we had all these half-assed shitty 3D games which shouldn't have been 3D.

FF7 also almost single handedly killed the sega saturn, dreamcast, n64 and cube. FF7 killed every franchise on these systems except for like the big nintendo franchises (like zelda, mario, kirby, mario kart, etc).

FF7 also killed nearly tons of franchises on ps1 as well.

FF7 also killed PC rpgs such as baldurs gate, fallout, planescape and the companies behind them. Because people were ignoring them while being faggots because they were spooging over animu cause they were bullshitted into thinking it was "new and exciting" when it really wasn't.

Because people were only buying shitty Square games. Was it worth it? Was it really worth it?

I agree the OP, FF VII sucks balls. The controls sucked really bad, the pre rendered 3d enviroments we're such a pixilated mess that you could hardly make out anything which added frustration because you couldn't tell the difference between the walkway you were on or a random object, the graphics were horrible for the PS1 other than the lame cutscenes (square-armed Lego people FTW!) the materia system was just a clever way of puting the job system in disguise, the story contradicted itself (if you didn't notice them then you suck at reading) the battles were lame and slow, why should it take 5 minutes to get through casting a summon? I had to avoid using alot of spells because they took forever..well I can go on but I'll stop now, anyway FF VII sucks big dick.

FF7 is a good game but, revolutionary in many respects but many people who call it "one of the greatest games ever made" have never even played it and if they have they haven't even got far enough to leave Midgar. Also the "compilmation of FF7" including Advent Children is a load of retcon fanservice crap. One of the characters like Kadaj I think summons Bahamut with a freakin' green materia, that's how little research the idiots who made that film did.

TRUTH.  Most of FF7 is basicly chaising Sephoroth around a map.  Nothing big post-Midgar.  I actually think Morrowind is much better.  I mean giving people a choice in HOW to do things is better than eye-candy.  In fact I blame FF in general for the ZOMG eye-candy movement.  Before FF it was about the game.  Most RPGs today are about making cool playable movies.  Why not just make a damn movie?  I wanna PLAY my games.

i've owned ff7 and still bought and played many of the games you mentioned. Baldur's Gate/ BGII did great so i dont know why you insist that FFVII killed PC games. As for PSX, Breathe of Fire III, Alundra, Riven, and a few others come to mind. FFVII helped move on from the shitty format of previous platform RPGS. FFVIII would've been great if the characters didnt look like shit ingame though :\

True that.  I think FF& and after did send RPGs in the wrong direction.  I liked the games, but they took out so much that I didn't actually realize what was missing.  Things like guilds, and actual exploration (someithing that until recently 3D practically KILLED) -- and the chance to decide to be a badass rather than saving the kingdom like a good little faggot.  It took Morrowind and Oblivion on my Xbox to show me that you could make a good game and give players a choice. 

Graphics whores have killed off so many great games that it's not funny.

I agree the FF7 pretty much killed off real roleplay until the PC market could make as good of graphics as a FF cutscene.  People fell for the playable movie and cheap love themes and ignored the purpose of the role-PLAYING-game.  Most of the JRPGS you'll find are baisc playable animes with little difficulty.  They're probably OK for one playthrough, but there's no depth, and for that matter very little PLAYING.  Every decision is already made for you.  You have to save the planet.  You have to fall in love with the designated wench.  You can't be evil in any way, you can't decide that the hero would rather work for Shin-ra or whatever.  You can't fuck with the NPCs, you can't do anything but play the movie the way the designers decided you have to.

I agree with the part that VII sucked, and it was the first Final Fantasy I played. VIII was far more better than VII, and IX mopped VII with the music, characters (Main character had emotions unlike Cloud) plot etc. I would say VII is one of the worse ones, next to XIII.

I played FF7 and FFX and FF12.  But I do blame them for some larger trends that are killing the RPG.  I prefer open ended shit that you can play with and decide what kind of hero you want to be rather than being force fed a preconceived idea of just who my character is.  I like being able to randomly explore things that I'm not supposed to see yet.  And really nothing takes the stress out of a shitty day like a Dark Brotherhood quest.  But whatever. 

My point is more that FF games aren't true RPGs.  They're playable movies that reward you for defeating a boss with more prearranged stoyline.  I'd personally rather PLAY.  I want to make my own story.

Sure, it derailed the RPG industry with every single game trying to mimic it. It spawned the abominations that FF games today are. I never saw it as a traditional RPG. It was a new concept at the time, now it is not so new as everyone has copied it in a way.

And it was the game that started Fandom, shitty fanart/porn and weebooism on the internet. Straight after it's release hundreds of forums opened up with weeboo's circle jerking and argueing about weather Cloud loved Aries or Tifa (Love wasn't really a large aspect of the game anyway).

It did what Halo did to the FPS industry, changed it forever for better or worse. Nothing can be done about it now, Traditional RPGs are a dying breed.

FFS FF7 was a great game on the ps1.  You get to do the chocobo races, and then get the crazy fast ones from the ice land.  You get to fall into the radiation shit and turn into a vegetable.  Cid smoked a pack of smokes while flying around in his space ship.  You get the opportunity to fight ruby weapon.  One of the hardest fights in rpg history.  Not to mention the basketball game in the arcade.  That game had me reminiscing about the dash game in Crono Trigger.... and all you faggots can't tell me Crono trigger wasn't the shit.  That game busts a nut all over the other games.  SKEET SKEET MOTHER FUCKER!
