What games have you played? D&D shit(Planescape Torment is very odd gem in that department and maybe best electronic RPG ever) and Final Fantasy? Japanese tend to be creative and I love their visual talents, but they aren't exactly good writers when it comes to RPGs. Stories tend to be pretty bad, cliched and not deep in any sense. This maybe partly due to language barrier, but honestly I don't think they'd edit tons of dialog out. I don't have anything against typical JRPG concepts or ideas, but what they need is "dynamic" storylines, good writers and ofcourse less fighting. Though saying that say Fallout has good story is kind of oxymoron too. American RPGs tend suffer storywise from same things as JRPGs, although they're quite often better. JRPGs need better writers, alternative paths to finish game/quests and ofcourse less FORCED fighting.
