Okay I've got ten minutes to decide
BUY A DS WITH DRILL SPIRITS (and mario later)
or
NOT?
Any replies made to this thread will in no way influence my decision.

I see no good games for DS. The PSP lauch is also pretty weak, but better. TIME WILL TELL, but i think DS is another virtual boy till the next GB comes out.

>>2, you're not looking hard enough. Mario 64, Drill Spirits, Wario Ware and Zoo Keeper are all good games, and they're for the DS.

im thinking of getting a DS, some of the games look fun and are alot cheaper. If i had a bit of money i'd buy a PSP too.

Mario 64 port lol
I just played the Flash Zookeeper. It's alright, for being Bejeweled (itself between Tetris Attack and that game where you click the color groups), but it's hardly a system-seller.
I really like the hardware, but I'm still not seeing much I'd actually want to play on it. Same for PSP, but for that system, I know the support is coming, whereas with Nintendo, I'm really doubtful.

I played Mario 64DS with a friend who has it, and quite frankly the multiplayer sucks major arse. The controls are a bit dodgy as well. Graphics are quite slick though, and apparently the game itself is actually not bad for a direct port. I think I'll wait a month or so until decent games come out, 'till then it's playing GBA games and First Hunt.

The DS so far would be a waste of money for you. Go invest in a stock or bond.

DS can fall either way...it could turn out to be just a gimmick and Nintendo will release the -real- gameboy sequel later, as they've said...or some awesome batshit crazy cool game will come out for it and it will gain support. Your call, boyo.

Okay, it's probably in bad taste to bump a nine month old topic, but this warrants a retrospect.
Then - Super Mario 64 DS, WarioWare: Touched!, Zoo Keeper, Feel the Magic: XY/XX Kirby: Canvas Curse, Meteos
Now - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Mario Kart DS, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Nintendogs, Super Princess Peach, True Swing Golf, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan, Jam With The Band, Elektroplankton, Metroid Prime Pinball, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Sonic Rush, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, Rub Rabbits!, Slime MoriMori: Dragon Quest 2, etc.
Soon - Final Fantasy III, Gyakuten Saiban 4, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Metroid Dread, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Kaitou Wario, New Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda DS, Ultimate Brain Games, Ultimate Card Games, Scurge: Hive, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, Dracula Castlevania, Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, Tales of DS, Bomberman Story, Custom Robo DS, Densetsu no Starfi 4, Dragon Quest Monsters, etc.
Honestly, even the PSP fans can't deny the DS' superiority.
Virtual Boy 2? Not even close.
Losing to the PSP? 6,000,000 for PSP, 10,000,000 for DS.
Less quality games? The highest rated game is Lumines with 90.1% of positive reviews, while there are three DS games - Advance Wars: Dual Strike with 90.6%, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow with 90.7% and Mario Kart DS with 92.1%.
Less third parties? Konami, EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, THQ, Hudson Soft, Namco, Sega, Square Enix (who is actually supporting DS more), Bandai, Majesco, Atari, Activision, Rare, Mistwalker, Koei, Natsume, Taito, Atlus, etc. While most of these support the PSP, most of them give the DS far more support.

Tard, the PSP has the entire back catalogue of everything under emulators =D Plus the music, movie, games, pictures, internet support.
I own neither, but if I did it would be a PSP. That's because DS fans will blindly call the sky orange if Nintendo told them to. And thats because they are 'spethul gaymerz'.

Okay, according to your logic, if something sells more than something else, even if it is cheaper, it is still better?
Nintendo DS 10,000,000? Toilet paper 895,789,298,572,947,6257!
Therefore by your logic toilet paper is better than the DS. I agree. Toilet paper looks better, is more useful, doesn't damage as easily, has more manfacture support. GOD DAMN IT! The DS is the worst thing I've wiped my ass with in ages!
Anyway, even with your numbers, at twice the price of a DS, the PSP only needs to sell half as many units to match gross sales. That’s not too shabby for Sony’s first-ever game console portable.
As nice as those titles look, what about Joe Average who has a DS and has no interest in imports or games only in Japan? As much as I'd like to see more Gyakuten Saiban games on the DS, while there are tons more developers signed on in Japan, we may never see Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan in the US on a mass scale. :-/

I like to view my internet on something larger than a 3 by 5 inch screen...why the fuck would I want to watch movies on that, either?
If I want to play playstation games, then I can play them on my playstation or just dl a rom. The fact of the matter is that you can't play DS games on anything else. It makes the DS more valuable.
I don't need something that is an expensive re-hash of things I can already do- and do better.
The PSP has sucky exculsive games...it's what? Lumines? I can just pick up Meteos if I want something like that.

they're very different games. meteos is great, especially with the touchscreen control, but it's really transparently a riff on panel de pon/tetris attack. i don't have a psp but i kind of like lumines better, from what i've played of it. it's purer. less window dressing.

DS= Dick Sucker.
It's the biggest piece of crap on the market. It makes the X-box controller look like an achievment in design. If you own a DS, hide it with the rest of your weird fetishes. You know, the locked box with your dildos, beastiality videos, and the goat. Go watch The Santa Clause again, DS-owning fags.

I don't care if it's a gimmicky developer system, the games are fucking great and every title released so far has been almost $20 less than competitors.
Lol @ spending lots of money for shitty battery life and ports of ps1 games.
All the psp games i have looked at blew hard, except lumines. It makes it really hard to decide if i want one with no good games but eh it is an MP3 player at best

TOILET PAPER DOESN'T HAVE TECH SUPPORT!!!!! DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:!!!!!!!!
Name:

Haha. What a bunch of retards.
For one, DS has sold more than twice what PSP has sold in Japan, and the PSP just only barely more expensive there.
For another, more sales means more support. If the PSP were to bomb, then where are Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Namco and Sega going to go? Nintendo DS, no doubt.
Emulators? Is that the best you can do?! Homebrewed content? Not only does it show that the best aspect of the PSP is that it bums off of everyone else's success, but there's a glaring problem - the 2.6 upgrade effectively disables pirated software, making emulation a dead concept for the PSP.
As for the other features...
Music? Okay?
Movies? No. This is the worst feature of the PSP, if only for the fact that there is no reason to have to rebuy your DVD movie collection on the PSP, for more than you paid originally, and even get less in return, in regard to extra features. As for internet, while the PSP has what the DS don't, what the PSP has is not very well designed.
Psh. "Special gamers", you say? Right. At least we're not spoon fed half truths. You'll eat anything that falls from Sony's ass just because you wish it to be true. Sony has, on three occasions, used shipped numbers and referred to them as sold numbers in order to make it seem like it is more successful than it actually is.
Anyway, some people make it seem like I listed sales figures as an indication of quality. Far from it. I listed sales figures as an indication that people who anticipated a clear cut victory for the PSP were fooling themselves. Thanks to a massive sales boost, the DS has broken two records - highest non-launch day sales in Japan and the fastest system to sell to 5,000,000. According to recent figures, they have seven million sellers, four 2,000,000 sellers and two 3,000,000 sellers, while PSP has none, but will likely have a 2,000,000 seller with LCS. This was only to prove the point that the DS is a far greater success than people anticipated.
As for the games, you must realize that Gitaroo-Man came to the states, and is far more absurd than Ouendan. I have also read that publishers have shown interest in bringing it to the states.
And embarrassing you? Right. I stated the facts objectively. Such as the fact that the DS has made quite a comeback, and initial PSP sales came from a great launch that was followed by a great game drought. I felt it needed to be reminded of to the PSP fans that the DS did better than most people expected. Most expected it to be Nintendo's swan song, some expected it to do equal or marginally better than the PSP, and few people expected it to sell nearly 12,000,000 units in a little over a year.
I love the PSP as well. I do not own one, but I play my cousin's PSP whenever he brings it along. I play Lumines, Wipeout, LCS and Popolocrois, and they are all very enjoyable. But I will not claim that it is equal or greater than the DS' game lineup just to come off as unbiased, because I am totally biased. I like the DS' games better. If this were the opposite, I assure you that the PSP would have had the same post, because the PSP would have earned its bragging rights. I admit that I want the DS to win, just to show people that the PlayStation label doesn't rule gaming like they thought it would. Even I expected a clear-cut victory from Sony, and I had low expectations for the DS both success-wise and quality-wise, and in the end, it excels in both.
buuut in biased in favor of neither system. The way i see it, both suck, psp is big and has lame batteries and shit games. DS is weird and has lame games.
i think i'll just stick to my ipod and a book for now
Shit, I am clearly biased towards DS. Doesn't mean I'm biased against the PSP. My post was a look back at the speculation that the DS wouldn't even be competition for the PSP. When the PSP came out, the DS was only slightly outselling it, and then when Nintendogs came out, everyone said that the DS cannot be carried by one game. Even though the DS was easily carried by Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Brain Training, Brain Training 2, etc. all help carry the DS, to the point where it became the fastest selling system to 5,000,000 in Japan, and its 36 week winning streak in Japan will be broken, and they will lose to Sony. However, the reason that they will lose, ironically, is because the Nintendo DS is too popular, and there are not enough DSes to supply the demand. So, it is not a case of the DS being a bomb and the PSP kicking ass, it's DS kicking ass and the PSP being a monumental success - not only is it the most successful non-Nintendo handheld system ever made, but it is the most successful by far.
PsP is the ONLY non-Nintendo handheld system in recent years to have any kind of third party support or to be backed by a big games company.
As a European I'll tell you one reason the DS doesn't sell too well in Europe, especially in the UK (This is as a DS only owner.)
PsP has the best Soccer game series ever made. Pro Evolution Soccer (Now up to Version 5) by Konami. If the DS had this and it resembled or even bettered the Sony versions in any way at all it'd be a mega hit. I recently did a survey out of boredom with all the Playstation talk in my school and asked every Playstation and PsP owner how many games they had and what they played most.
The results were not unexpected. (Bear in mind nearly all the owners were male)
90% of people said they currently had less than 5 games for their Playstation and usually played only 2 at most often.
The most often played by a massive distance was:
Pro Evolution Soccer 5.
Many people said that this was in fact their ONLY game, usually they had sold all the others due to lack of play.
Never say that a console cannot be carried by one game. In Europe and the UK especially. Sony's most certainly are.
What do you mean, poor? The DS has more systems sold in Europe, and in the UK, the DS is 5,000 units ahead. PSP may be pretty close in Europe, but I would certainly not give it to PSP. Nintendogs and Mario Kart DS are still selling, and I assure you that Pokémon will skyrocket sales.

DS owns, bought one and its great.
Every game I got on it, not a problem with em.
PSP = short battery life, long load times, gay remakes of games (that are basically carbon copies), Nice screen and button layout but uhm..... for what reason do you want a UMD movie?
Oh yeah, did I say remakes and carbon copied games?
The truth
PSP looks better, and is better for sports games (Sims) and 3d racing (although most of their racing = rehash of a system version)
DS is better for puzzles, action, 2d everything, online( recently) , racing (2d).
If you get DS, you won't be disappointed, especially if you have friends with a DS (even if they don't have games).
PSP is a 250$ disappointment until maybe 2 years later when they say "PSP2" and the crap actually starts to get some fun games other than Lumines

>>16 PSP Will be able to Emulate DS games eventually. There are a few games that NEED the touchscreen, but not all.
>>37 Maybe, jsut maybe, it's because the DS is the cheapest launched system in the past, oh I don't know, 10 years? If you are buying a present for your kids and it has to be next gen do you buy the $400 system? The $300 PS2, the $300 XBox, the $500 360, or the launch priced $150 DS? You get the fucking DS. Plus it keeps them holy fuck quiet in the car.

1. Assuming you never, ever update your PSP (anything past 1.5 can NOT play emulation).
2. Or maybe, just maybe, people prefer the DS. People who CAN afford the PSP don't seem to be buying Grand Theft Auto: LCS more than Mario Kart DS (650,000 non-bundle sales, 350,000 bundle sales, compared to 750,000+ for LCS), with MKDS selling more in a shorter period of time.

emulating DS games? that would be fucking retarded and would never work cause most games that use the touch screen are tight...fuck PSP
Emulate DS Games? Are you fucking retarded? The PSP hardware can barerly emulate N64 roms. The only emulator I know of that could run on the PSP is Corn ( http://home.clara.net/smiff/require/hardware.htm ) And that's the absolute minimum with compatibility including sound for only 28 games. From there on you would need 400 MHz and 64 MB ram to emulate N64 games.
You would need more to emulate DS games, so emulating DS games on the PSP is most likely out of question (unless you plan to somehow upgrade alot of the hardware).
You CAN play games on a 2.0 PSP with no problems, and a few days a go the 2.5 update was cracked and now everyone who has 2.5 can now play roms and homebrew games on the psp with no problem.
