Fake Sony memory sticks and such

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-11 17:51

Hi guys. Been reading up on these and it sure looks like the one I got is a fake, even though I bought from a seemingly good seller on eBay. (Sold dozens, if not hundreds with all positive feedback left). So  what I'd like to ask is, what is the actual transfer speed of a real memory stick? This one is going at about 600k per second.

Another thing, as soon as I transferred a few songs to the card it said it was half full. Is that yet another sign it's a fake?

There's been a few other things that guides on the net say it's a fake. Like the capacity, it's 7728 megs for 8gb, the exact number fakes use. It says "Magicgate unknown," another sign.

So yeah, I'm gonna try and fill the card up and see if it really does hold that much. But otherwise, what is the speed it's supposed to run at, and what would you do if you got a fake? The guides say to report it. The seller's gonna be in hot water for this sorta thing. It's technically fraud.

My sacrasm spidey senses are tingling. But in the event that someone does wanna know, it does indeed appear to be a fake. It can't hold any more than 4 gigs. I'm half glad that such detailed info is available on how to spot fakes, but that just means that there aren't any cheap ones out there. And that tons of other people already unknowingly got ripped off.

Now begins the long and wonderful process of reporting the seller's ass to Paypal and all this legal shit. Here's the guy/company I bought it from: http://myworld.ebay.com/ultra-clear
7500 feedbacks, no one else reported or knew they were fake.

If I might still ask though, what speeds do real cards run at? I also heard of Mark 2 Sony cards that are faster. What kinda speeds do they get?

Man, those things must have a diesel engine in them or something.

yeah its an old bedford engine that powers it, its a bit noisy and makes it a little less portable, but it gets the job done

Got rid of the fake and bought myself an official one and it still runs at the same speed. Maxes out around 725kb a second. And it's the "Mark 2" which is supposedly totally awesome and faster than anything else in the world.

A burnable DVD costs about 30-50 cents  and holds 4 gigs as well. The read and write speeds (with burners or recorders) are much better too. So I don't see why video cameras don't just use those. Or maybe that's what mini-DVD camcorders are for.

So in case anyone is considering buying one of these, don't. You only need such pieces of crap for the PSP.
