dd won't bypass shit.  It will dump the entire encrypted image.  You have to decrypt it and then shrink it unless you like letting the MPAA rape you up the ass with the 3 for $12 price of blank dual-layer DVDs (vs. 50 for $12 of normal DVDs) or you have 320TB of space to keep your unshrunk DVDs.  So yes, they can take advantage of any vagueness in or practical devations from PGC/.VOB structure standards and break existing programs.  Existing programs must then be updated to cope with this.  Which, DVD Decrypter can't.

Go rent Madagascar from your local Blockbuster and just TRY to decrypt it using DVD Decrypter.  Then put it through DVD Shrink.
Enjoy your outdated shit.

And it's totally possible for a program to be done and still miss important functionality.  I would say no program is ever truly complete; there is always things to improve.  Are you really going to stay with Windows 95 or a 0.0.x kernel just because the current ones aren't "done"?  Idiot.

DVDFab HD Decrypter is free, btw.  How are the makers trying to rip anyone off in that case, other than to try to peddle the full paid-version of DVDFab?
