Zup?

I have had two external hard drives crash in the past weeks.  What's a reliable hard rive or other method for long term storage of pictures/media that you need to access frequently?

Keeping multiple hardrives pid for and synched is getting old...

Seagate first.  Western Digital second.  Maxtor never.

Tips for use of external hard drives:
 - Don't use enclosures that have bad airflow.
 - Don't place them where they can't get air.
 - Don't move them while they are running.
 - Don't let your cat sleep on them.
 - Blow a fan on them to keep them cool, if you keep them in a closet or something.

If you want reliable hard drives, learn about block failure rates and mean time to failure, both of which are figures that manufacturers associate with their hard drives. Of course better drives are more expensive but since hard discs are dirt cheap nowadays, that shouldn't be a big issue. Also use drives that are made for enterprise storage. If you want real good ones, get SCSI instead of SATA. Just make sure that coolance is accounted for if you get ones with 15k rpm.

I have an AcomData mini Pal. Hasn't caused me any problems, but how would you rate it?

Amazon's S3 and http://s3sync.net/ is excellent for backups. Perhaps you can use it for live storage too.

Don't change these.
