Windows XP MCE 2005

Name: Anonymous 2007-06-29 4:01 ID:jM4FWTxE

I'm trying to install Windows XP. The only disc I have for it is a Home SP2 disc and the key I have is for MCE 2005.

During the installation, it doesn't check the key on the internet, right? So, does anyone have a key I can use, even if I can't activate it? I just need a key that will work for the installation.

Oh god, just fucking go to any business with an XP computer and write down the product key from the Certificate of Authenticity sticker that's usually in plain view.

or even use a cd key generator.  you don't really need IE7 or WMP 10 anyway.

any business that has XP? You do realize that they could be using that key and it could already be activated, right?

It's not like they are putting their VL key on the machine.

it should get you past the initial keycheck screen.  you will get caught on windows update, but only complete idiots try to go to windows update after installing pirated xp.  http://www.belarc.com

oh, and to install ie7, download it from microsoft (not via windows update) or softwarepatch.com, and disable your network adapter during the install.  it will wait for a minute or two on the "Validating..." screen and then successfully install.

Microsoft requires validation to download ie7.

Ie7 is required to cover security holes of ie6. So, yes, if using internet explorer, ie7 is recommended.  If you use a different browser, however, you do not have to worry (unless, of course, the other browser has problems).

Very few people use ie7 compared to ie6.  Security issues or not, it is not yet a worthy target.

It includes the shitty codebase, it's less standards compliant than something I left in the loo this morning, it's slow as fuck, and it's still ridiculously insecure.

It was never my intention to dispute that IE sucks, or indicate that I like or even really use IE.  Even though I never touch it, I still keep it updated because Microsoft is an idiot.

As long as any of you still use Windows, you can't talk.  Would you run Windows without SP2 or latest updates?  Furthermore, knowing the morons that they are at MS, and knowing how deeply IE is entwined in Windows, it makes sense to keep it updated, even if you never use it, for the same reason.  Common fucking sense.

"how deeply IE is entwined in Windows"
"Stop using Internet Explorer"

Therefore, stop using windows(??).

Right.  It's also what the person bitching at me for justifying an IE7 upgrade needs to do, and also, if he continues to use Windows, he can't say shit.  Thread over.

Don't change these.
