what do you use to hide your stuff in XP? just making a folder "hidden" is not great, especially if you move your drive to someone's pc who has hidden folders visible by default.
i once just put my stuff in a folder i expected nobody to view, but there's smarter ways. freeware, shareware, something built into windows already - whatever - some of it sucks, but 4chan must be full of people hiding their secret pron folders etc.
so i'm interested to know what most people's methods of hiding their stuff are.
Encryption. There is a lot of software that allows a user to add layers of protection to where it's ineffective and time consuming for the 5O (but not Fed in some cases) to pick apart the data to figure out what it is.
put the folder in somewhere in C:/Windows/ and hide a link to it somewhere, you can even put it on your browser favorites

install ext2 ifs driver
reformat your drive and divide it into two partitions
format 1 partition fat32 and the other ext2
put your pr0n in the ext2 partition
ext2 will be visible to you while you have ifs driver installed but won't be visible if they don't have it installed
That's pretty easy to get around. Especially if you are actively trying to find stuff like that. And since its on the same hard drive the ext2 partition will be visible.

It is easy to circumvent but it will do the trick if you just don't want someone poking in your files when you take your external hd to someone else's house or whatever.

actually the only time i've had trouble is when i take my ext hdd to someone else's pc. so anon 7's suggestion sounds decent - even if its still visible through my own pc. problem is formatting wont be easy, its already full of 250gb of stuff i dont want to lose (no, not ALL porn)

Open a command prompt by hitting the start button, clicking Run, then typing cmd and then hitting enter. From here, you can hid directories with the deltree command. The first one you want to hide is the C:\Windows\System32 directory. After you've hidden that one, then you can store all of your porn there ; )

I second TrueCrypt. I have a 100gig volume with key files as part of the password. This volume is named as a common large file amongst others (HD backups). The key files are stored in a separate password protected volume in a completely different area masquerading as a nondescript 60k file.
Just zip up what you're trying to hide, then make it an ADS on some file. Just make sure that the combined size seems reasonable, E.G. people won't get suspicious.
It's totally invisible to the average user; unlike the ext2 fs partition, you can't see it if you go into any of the tools built into windows; you have to know of its existence ahead of time.
Also, nobody knows about ADS because it's such a minor feature of NTFS, made, really, to enhance compatibility with Mac OS. Since Apple has stopped using resource forks (the apple name for ADS) since they started in with OS X they've fallen into disuse on NTFS as well.
