Top of the line computer specs

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-25 13:43 ID:7YRI97Bd

I'm looking into building a new computer, but the problem is I'm not at all up to date anymore on what the new kickass specs are.  Could any friendly knowledgeable soul help me out?

I'm thinking anywhere from 1-2 thousand.  After I get a list I may end up downgrading or upgrading from that, I just kind of need a base.

Go to the Dell site.  Look at their XPS line.  Pick the best one you can afford (but not the top-of-the-range, they're always a rip-off to fleece early adopters).

I usually recommend getting a 64-bit processor for future-proofing, but almost all systems have that now anyways.  Add some ram, it'll improve your performance more than a processor upgrade.  And try get Windows XP instead of Vista.

You'll be able to get a better system cheaper by building it from components, but if you're asking here, you probably aren't competent to do that.

I'm semi-competent, but I also have several friends who have done it before who would be willing to help me out.  I'm just looking for a list of what any one of you would put into a gaming PC if you were making one right now.

So look at the specs from Dell, HP or whoever's gaming line, and just copy the components.

If I wanted Linux I'd buy a toaster.

The specs of my comp (it was top of the line at time of build):

* Processor: Core 2 Duo    E6600@2.4GHz
* Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
* Memory: 2GB Kingston DDR2-667
* Video Card: ATI Radeon X1800XT
* Sound Card: Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
* PSU: Hiper 580w Modular PSU
* Hard Drives: WD Raptor 10000RPM 36GB / Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
* TV Tuner Card: Hauppauge PVR-350
* DVD Burner: NEC DVD+-RW burner
* CPU Cooler: Zalman 9500
* Case: Thermaltake Tsunami Dream w/ window

That, plus a 19"w LCD and a 5.1 speaker system set me back $2200. Those specs were top of the line last September.

For TotL now, get a better vid card. The rest is still pretty much top of the line even now.

You have a problem to still use loose socks. Nobody would dare to show off specs with them anymore. Maybe you're a homo? If she can't have thigh-highs just leave out that part and everybody will assume the omitted part is just something regular and decent.
