IDE or SATA

I just got my new 150GB SATA hard drive and I love it. So far I'm just using it to store my games, pictures, and "movies". Would it increase the performance of my applications if they are installed on an SATA drive instead of IDE? My mobo supports 3.0gb/s SATA as a sidenote.

Anyways, >>1, please listen to me. Not that it's really related to this conversation. I went to Frys to check out SATA a while ago; you know, SATA? Well anyways there was an insane number of people buying it, and I could hardly find anything still in stock. Then, I looked at the banner posted at the top of the ad, and it had "3GB/s" written on it. Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots. You, don't come to SATA just because it has 3GB/s, fool. It's only extra bus bandwidth for crying out loud. There're even entire families here. Family of 4, storing data, huh? How fucking nice. "Alright, daddy's gonna run it at 3GB/s" God I can't bear to watch. You people, I'll give you my old RAID cards if you get off of this bandwagon. The hardware store should be a bloody place. That tense atmosphere, where two nerds on opposite sides of the aisles can start chocking each other with old thicknet cables, The stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, that's what's great about PC hardware. Women and children should screw off and stay home. Anyways, I was about to start bringing clarity to my world, enjoying the the slimmer cables and hotswapping, and then the bastard beside me goes "I'm gonna use RAID 0" Who in the world uses RAID 0, you moron? I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to to have your precious continuous filesystem?" I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour. Are you sure you don't just want a bigger harddrive? Coming from a veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, 10KRPM. That's right, 10K RPM. It takes advantage of the extra bandwidth, in a way that you don't need the placebo effect for. But on the other hand the cost is a tad higher. This is the key. And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable. However, if you do this this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the salespeople from next time on; it's a double-edged sword. I can't recommend it to amateurs. What this all really means, though, is that you, >>1, should just learn about sustained transfer rates.

short answer. yes.

short answer: not perceptibly.
7200RPM drives can't saturate ATA133 (they can go a little over ATA100 speeds). Don't get it for the speed. Get it for the not having to worry about jumpers, for being allowed more devices, etc. Unless you buy10K RPM drives. Then get it for the speed too. But I'm tired of repeating myself, so sure, get SATA2 and convince yourself that it's lightning fast.
