Folder password questions

I just bought one of those Microsoft fingerprint readers, it's great. Is there a way I can password protect a specific folder then use the fingerprint scanner as the password? Any help is appreciated.

If you can't do that, the best next option would be to have Opera remember your passwords. It can then fill them in by inputing CTRL+ENTER.

There's no way I'd protect my data with something that inaccurate. Next thing you know it'll lock you out and give others access to your data.

use truecrypt (.org), it's open source - it does not however protect a folder but creates an encrypted container file which you then mount as a virtual drive and can use just like any other (could encrypt a whole partition too if you wanted)

oh and i'd not use that fingerprint thing either .. better a good passphrase with a couple keyfiles. if it's just some random shit you don't go into jail / go bankrupt for, just use a simple password (simple as in still somewhat secure for everyday shit)
or if you want to be lazy just put a keyfile on an usb stick and use that

just having encrypted files/filesystems means you have something from the authorities point of view

nah you just give them the password for the outer volume with some fake/unimportant personal files in it, and then have a hidden volume in there with the real stuff.
you can't tell at all if a hidden volume even exists in a truecrypt container.
as long as innocent until proven otherwise holds true, good luck proving anything then.
and at least in my country you don't even have to tell them the (outer) password in the first place.

They will find charges to throw at you, and confiscate your gear for evidence.

At your arraignment if you refuse to cooperate the judge will hold you in contempt for not giving up the password.

Regardless of whether you give up the passwrod they will have 45 days before you go to trial and while you're waiting for your court date the feds all the time in the world to take your drive apart.

Even if you go to trial and get found innocent, many months and 10's of 1000s of dollars later, good luck getting your gear back. Don't even think of letting a Public Defender represent you; they'll just tell you to plead or take the plea bargin.

That's one hell of a lot of hassle just to prove a point don't you think?
