Long story short, I ran FIXBOOT in the Windows Recovery Console but when it was going to detect the file system it decided it was FAT instead of NTFS. Is there any way to fix this without formatting?

convert X: /fs:ntfs
where X is the partition you want to convert. irreversible (ntfs>fat) w/o reformatting.

ignore the above
1. make a boot disk w/ fdisk on it
2. boot off that disk
3. run with the undocumented "fdisk /mbr" command
4. ?????
5. profit

Instead, go to
www.opera.com , install
www.opera.com on the boxen with the problem and the problem will be fixed.

I think you're screwed. If it couldn't detect NTFS data structures in the partition, they're probably not there. Meaning your partition is gone.
