My laptop doesn't seem to want to boot from any Linux CDs. I tried Auditor, Backtrack, PCLinux, and the Ubuntu Install Disc v5.1 for i386. I have it set up right in the bios, and it even reads the discs before it goes to the hard drive.
What am I doing wrong here?

I installed Ubuntu on a laptop with builtin webcam earlier this summer. At first it seemed like any other OS. Now, Linux has a reputation for poor webcam support, so I didn't expect much, but to my suprise, the webcam worked perfectly. I have to admit I'm a bit of a camwhore, so I took numerous pictures of myself for those first couple of weeks. Anyway, about the end of the third week, I noticed that the colors on the pictures I'd taken had started to shift. I tried to fix them up with the GIMP, but they just kept shifting back. I eventually gave up. One night I was browsing 4chan when all of a sudden the image viewer pops up and starts displaying my pictures, only they are all x-rays now. When it gets to a shot I took of my genitals, it stops. I see an unusually dark lump on one of my testicles. I close the laptop and rush to the hospital, where I find out that I have testicular cancer. Luckily it's operable, and I have the tumor removed right away. I made a quick, full recovery. The damnedest thing about it, though, is that when I finally got back home, the laptop is gone, and so is my fucking bike!

Nothing. The screen goes blank tell it reaches the window loading screen.

Wmware Workstation 5. DONE! Get it a 9down.com. I'm running WinXP Pro and Ubuntu 6.06.1 simultaniously. VM rocks.

I do have two computers. But since I can't lug my Desktop to my CompSci class, I think it would make more sense to put Linux on my laptop too.

internal college network? XDMCP over an ssh tunnel is the correct way of doing what you want. Vmware is the stupid way.
I see. Did you try to rewrite the BIOS into the CMOS (Go to BIOS and save your cahnges again)? It would say press any key yo boot from CD. Does it say that?

I tried fixing the BIOS thing 3 or 4 times. It does read the CD before it goes to Windows. And no, I don't think it says press any key to boot from CD, but maybe the laptop monitor isn't displaying that part. I'll try pushing buttons while it's reading the CD and see if that helps.

MISSING BOOT SECTOR
YOU MUST BURN THE ISO AS A CD IMAGE, NOT COPY THE FILES INDIVIDUALLY
word. Desktop integration bitches. Just think of all the sad noobs running 2 OS' in that niggersoft VMware. It's not that great and nobody gives a shit.

LOOKS LIKE YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A DOS FLOPPY AND LOADLIN
>>10 That solution, while would work if I had Linux installed, doesn't since I don't. VMWare was one way to fix that, and atleast the people in this thread who like VMWare have actually offered a way to fix my problem. Those of you complaining about it seem to have the whole point go right over your heads, and offer a solution that requires that Linux. Which I don't have installed. Because of the problem in >>1
Anyway, I found Instlux, and will use that to install Linux.
